Thanks. You should add a rock concert to your bucket list. In some ways they are like hockey games. The crowd enhances the overall experience. Of course some are like major broadway shows with so much visual and special effects going on you loose the music.

I do remember getting dragged to front row seats for a Janet Jackson concert though. I am sure all the music was lipsynched and it was not worth more than a brief listen. Great show though. Complete costume changes between songs. Dance steps that were mesmerizing. She worked harder than some NFL quarterbacks I paid to see last season.

Last live concert I went to was Sting. Great show. Outdoor arena. Sat on the lawn. Fireflies provided a lightshow. And he and the band did encore after encore.

I forget what the TV ad was for but remember the punk rockers that go back stage, take off their costumes and makeup and walk out the back door amidst their screaming fans as super old geezers? I cannot get that ad out of my mind thinking about the Stones upcoming concert tour.

I have a music service to my phone but find I use Spotify a lot. $10/month. Much less than what I used to pay for CDs with sometimes one worthy cut. Amazes me the music publishing industry still thinks we will pay $18 or whatever for a CD. Absurd. Hopefully these music services can put small up and coming out in frontal view. I agree there is some incredible indie music out there right now and I am not as cynical as ChrisN. We just need to support them and give them a chance.

Unless they are Canadian girl rockers. We all know Canadian athletes cannot sing their own national anthem, whichever is in use at the moment, so why would we expect decent music out of them? And who wants to hear it in Montreal French? Vancouver is for all purposes part of the US so I exclude those Canadians from exclusion. I heard some great blues of all things in Toronto once too so maybe those Canadians can crank out a tune. Ain't nothing in Alberta but cows.

My first concert was Chicago.....early 70's....

But I'm an old fart....my idea of a good concert is Phil Collins, Yani and Lady Antebellum....oh, and we did see Sting and Annie Lennox at the Hollywood bowl a few years ago....Sting is a great singer...but Annie puts on a much better show...

I saw Chicago too in the 70's - I got a good laugh when the "older" people in line had to lift their pant legs & open their jackets- they just didn't understand
It was a good show, but my memories of Terrible Ted performing Cat Scratch Fever are the best.

Easy there Steve, I have already apologized on behalf of all Canadians for bringing the world the Biebs and Celine.

I know you only returned to us to appease your ever loving Canadians. But we do produce some amazing talent

Alors .... quelle est la force de l'influence française à Toronto? À Montréal, ce n'est pas facile de trouver quelqu'un qui parle anglais. Eh bien, ils parlent, mais je préfère être difficile.

Don't feel bad, I had to have a translator for this also.

Summarized, I believe so long as Candians think Tegan and Sara worth even trying to listen too? ChrisN is right. There is no hope.

I know it is not rock music, but since this post turned into French you must meet Enri the Cat. And trust me? If you must learn French, this guy is the one to seek out. Nobody in Paris or Montreal will even talk with you if you goof inflection or something. Goof up in Spanish and people will laugh, take you to lunch, marry off a daughter to you, give you a donkey.

Anyhow this is so perfect no Parisian would ever challenge you. Henri the cat is in immaculate French with subtitles.

But then the French did give us the very concept of existentialism. Which only fueled some of us on to suggest, it cannot be all the bad? And people speaking English, Spanish or most other languages laugh. French speakers are beyond morbid and never smile.

Ok back to the thread. Name one rock band current or out of memory that came from France? Or anyplace French speaking?

Poor Henri.. He must do some honest and deep soul searching in order to shed his cloak of crippling self doubt. But he is insightful, it will be work, but he will get there.

He must peel back that bandage that protects himself from long ago wounds..and examine it...then and ony then can he call himself truly healed.

As far as naming a rock band out of France, it simply can't be done.

Of course, there are plenty that call Quebec home

There was a period where I was stuck on the bands I grew up with. That's all I would listen to, and all I wanted to listen to. I couldn't wait for them to put out a new album. I refused to listen to anything else.

Then, after a few years, I got tired of waiting. I realized that they weren't going to put out another album and that their time had passed. Then, when they finally did put out an album, it sucked. No problem, I would just continue listening to their old stuff and wait for the next album to come out. Maybe it'll be better. I hope....

It wasn't.

Or, maybe it was, but I was just getting older and I needed to realize this. The music I loved had gotten older too. It was time to branch out and discover new music.

I searched the internet far and wide for new sources of music and ways to find these sources. Youtube (of all places) became my useful tool for finding new music. I found a secret side of Youtube where everybody is nice, the atmosphere is peaceful, and the music is great.

Since then, my musical interests have turned completely around. I'm listening to stuff that I wouldn't have normally listened to in the past, and I love it. I'm literally discovering something new every week.

---

5 years ago, the FM radio stopped working in my truck. I am much happier without it.

I have no clue who Bieber is, except from all of the jokes on the internet making fun of him.

I saw Nirvana in '93 and laughed at all of the people that were 20+yrs older than me at the time. Now, I am one of those people I laughed at, and it just makes sense.

Uh-oh

Our man Doc is certainly a musical genius. This is could be a discrepancy. At any rate the above paragraph has earned you at least a knighthood.
