The Rich To Lose Subsidised Housing

This makes me very angry!

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/poli...cil-homes.html

It basically says that there are 6000 people living in the UK that earn over 100,000 a year but still get to live in council housing!

(for those in America (I don't know if you have the same thing but by a different name) council housing is basically homes for which the council pay a portion of the rent)

This is completely wrong. Even more so is the fact the changes are going to only affect those earning more than 100,000! People on 40, 50, 60k do not need subsidising either, if they think they do, they need to reassess their priorities!

What does everyone else think?

It's all over. Here's a guy that won $2M and he remains on food stamps.

2 Mil?
Let's say: after expenses, all you're left with is 1.2+ Mil
How does anyone expect a person to survive on that "paltry" sum?!?
Boo-Hoo!
(Talk about a "down-graded" life-style!)

That's an American story, and a slightly different issue being food stamps than housing but it's equally ridiculous.

Saying that we could do with implementing food stamps over here (but not for lottery winners of course!), it would make it a bit more difficult for the benefit hungry to full themselves up with beer and fags...

'If lottery winnings are "liquid assets" and not "income", why do lottery winners have to pay income taxes on their winnings? Perhaps the next lottery winner should tell the IRS "Hey, it's not income! It's liquid assets!" and see how far it gets them. Hmmph.'

This is a good point that's made in the comments on the story. I believe all monetary winnings are taxed as income in the US, is that correct?

If so then of course, the winnings are income and should be treated as such in every way.

I believe all winnings are taxable in the US. I'm not sure what rate they get taxed at - I never win *@^#.
