My name is Taylor Hardee and I am a graduate Architecture student at
Syracuse university. My project is trying to combine the powers of
social media (in order to understand
the representational issues of the everyday home), with the spatial
development skills of the architecture community. If you have a second to respond to the following question it would
be greatly appreciated.
The question: In thinking of vernacular housing as the type of budget to
work with, and if you were given a chance to design your own house,
what would be your primary focus? A) Kitchen space B) Living space C)
Bedrooms D) Storage space
What methods or s/w will you use to reduce the data? SAS?
I am not familiar with the SAS method. This is to see the amount of responses that would result from using the forum genre. Have any advice on evaluating the data?
Kitchen...and I am designing our space
Ok...I build..wife designs
Thank you for the website. I am attempting to take the percentages and combine them with spatial geometries through a program called Grasshopper in a 3d modeling software which creates parametric relationships. Ultimately the percentages and peoples responses would control the floor plan, or section layout of a house.
I'm stuck between living space, and storage space. My reasoning for living space is, well that's where you will spend most of your time, so you want the space to be bigger and comfortable. My reasoning for storage is that, I've seen houses that hardly have any storage space, and well what happens is that cuts into your living space, and overall the house is more cluttered. Lot of storage space also helps you be more organized.
Storage space - I can build a shed or garage...wait I built both
Bedroom - I only sleep there....I'm getting old
I don't need a freekin huge Master bedroom -even tho ours will be pretty big at ~700 sq ft excluding the walk-in closet, master bathrooms (yes 2) & knee wall storage areas
Kitchen space - Usually the main area of a house & doubles as an entertainment area
With our new kitchen- open to the sunroom & modified dining room that will be a large part of where we spend time
Our 2nd kitchen - in the great room/bar area once finished may actually become our most used area
Living space - that can sort of include Kitchen & bedrooms
I've seen many master bedrooms that include a small kitchen - sink/microwave etc, TV area & office area
So a "Living area" is no longer a seperate area now from other areas
We do have a Living area where our TV is located & my PC
So that area is most used right now until the kitchen/sunroom is finished
Then once the 2nd kitchen/bar/great room is finished that area will most likely be our new "living area" that is used most
