Rerouting gas line

First timer here. Actually I just wanted some opinions on a bid I recieved from a plumber to reroute a gas line. (Sorry if I have offended anyone on a DIY site...) The bid is $438 to remove an existing line (about 25 ft.) and install and cap a new one (about the same length). He will have to drill through the foundation of my home and a concrete slab as it will be run from my basement to the patio outside. I live in rural MD and this plumber is the only one I can get ahold of. I would love to have other bids, but your opinions and comments would be just as helpful to me. Does 438 sound fair? Thanks in advance, and I'll be checking back often.

We don't know your cost of living or discuss a lot of pricing issues but it sounds fair to me. My company would charge that.
2 hrs labor plus travelling time, materials, wear and tear on a diamond bit and drill, gas it all adds up.

Do you have a written itemized bid?

Without knowing what kind of conditions he's going to be working in, what his overhead cost is, what material he is using, ETC ETC ETC, it's impossible for someone to tell you what is or isn't a fair price over the internet.

Not to mention, not having any idea what your financial situation is it's hard to say what a fair price is from your perspective. Personally, were I not a plumber, and had no knowledge of gas piping, i'd probably be willing to pay someone a little over 400 bucks to do the work for me.
