A question for gun owners
In the first Bourne Identity movie an assassin comes through a picture window, firing an automatic weapon.

When all the bullets are spent the thing keeps clicking. How can this happen? Don't these guns depend on the recoil to recock themselves?

A question for gun owners
It sounds like echos or an overdub. The only machine gun I've ever fired is an M-16 and yes, they require recoil from firing a round to cock themselves.
I'll have to get the DVD out and watch it again. I don't remember it being that way on the DVD. I noticed the apology from the poster on youtube about the poor sound quality.
I'll try to watch that part tonight and then let you know if it's in the original.

Want to see a stupid shooting scene? Watch the old movie "Sharkey's Machine". Burt Reynolds shoots the bad guy with a 357 and he keeps coming forward. Ain't gonna happen.

A question for gun owners
to me, it sounds like it was added to show the viewer the gun had run out of ammunition.
yes, guns such as that use the expanding gas from the fired shell to "re-cock" for the next round. It would not continue to click-click-click
it fits right in with all the BS sound effects of them hitting each other. It sounds like they are hitting something very hard with something very big and heavy yet it is only their fist hitting the other guy. I don't know how many of you have seen a fight with people hitting people very hard, it doesn't sound anything like that.
On top of that, the acting is so poor, there are many times where the sound effect was of a guy getting hit yet the other guys fist or elbow was nowhere close to hitting the guy.
Sounds like it's time for a new sound engineer.

I just watched the scene on the DVD and the phantom sound is there. Even on the DVD it sounds like an echo. Like nap said, time for a new sound engineer.
I have all of the Bourne movies. I like them even though they are far-fetched.
BTW, that movie is on FX tonight 2X in a row starting at 8:00 central time.

Foley techs are the worst! They'll lay sound over anything. Watched the third on BluRay this weekend.
Also, reading the book right now. Only remotely like the movies.

Wow I never even realize that, but it's true, a real fight would not sound like that at all, they add lot of sounds. This goes for lot of movies. In fact a punch does not really make much of a sound against skin, maybe a smack sound more then anything. The typical THUA sound in movies is just made up to add more to it.

Yep, would not keep clicking if you just held your finger on the trigger.
As far as the fight goes, I agree it sounds nothing like that in real life - but it dos make the movie more fun to watch haha. When I spar in Muay Thai with full gear on it enhances the sound when you land a kick or a punch flush but it still sound NOTHING like in the movie. Still ... the sounds make it more fun to watch I think.

Yeah, I like the way they stride toward each other, even though I rationally understand it's sort of a caricature of reality.
And I never get tired of watching the nightclub scene in the first terminator. Reese has this look on this face like he is stepping on a bug or something while he's blasting Ahhnnold out the door.

I had to go find out what Muay Thai is. I found this video. There is a bad a** knockout at about 50 seconds into it. Can't say I have ever seen a move quite like it before.
