Poof...they're gone.
Where do all the Newbies go?
Seems like they hear one opinion and run with it. ...or they don't like to hear the right way and move on.... Hope they're not getting scared away with real answers from guys in the trades vs HomeDepot and weekend HGTV advice ....... Just curious......

Poof...they're gone.
This is the way it has always been----Some come and stay----most need an answer RIGHT NOW--
Many one post wonders that don't even come back to give us the outcome. Those that become regulars are the most enjoyable to work with--we get to know what they are capable of--and can tailor our answers to those skills.----Mike--

I think that a lot of the Newbie's have been brought up in the "Politically Correct" Era, and do not like anyone that tells them like it is. It hurts their feelings, poor little ones always need to be liked and spoken to as if they were 2 yr old. They cant take it. The ones that don't mind are OK in my book. but then they don't want to set the world on fire, and are up to constructive criticism.

Poof...they're gone.
They come to this place - to try and get "simple" answers for complex
questions. They don't understand why the vast majority of people here, that are willing to take the time, to give an answer (thoughtful feedback - call it what you want). Would like to see some "Pics" (Drawing, "Paint", etc..). Hopefully, they acquire enough understanding of their problem - so that they're on the way to a resolution. I hope!! ![]() I don't know! rossfingal (Just a conjecture! - I've found that this place is a very "vast" repository of experience and knowledge) |

Poof...they're gone.
Stumbled across this thread, wanted to toss in my 2 pennies...
I, for one, really appreciate all the info you folks give on a daily basis. I've made a few posts, and try to check at least once a day. I just search for what I'm interested in but also try to glean info for future projects. As I start on some big projects I'll be starting a running thread on it, believe me. I'll need all the help I can get. I'm not posting much now...waiting for the ground to thaw! ;-) But trust me, I'm around for the long haul. This is the best site around. So, thanks again. Free advice is dang hard to come by these days, and you folks consistently give out the best. -andy- |

Poof...they're gone.
I think some get put off by several different answers to the same question. I have been a flooring installer for 40 years. If I know the answer, I give the help. If I am not sure, I don't reply. But we get people who will say anything just to be able to give a reply. Some of the worst are the big box reps, who will say anything to promote their products.

I think it could be as easy as forgetting to "bookmark" the site. Having access to the internet is great for quick info. Get into a prodject, get hung up on something, of course we need to keep the prodject going, google for help, back to work on the project. I just think its great that there are people here who can help the distressed do it yourselfer.

Poof...they're gone.
I believe at least 50% of them are genuinely surprised to learn that a message board does not work like "teh google".
The answer isn't there 30 seconds later ........... they're outta here! |

Poof...they're gone.
Maybe we should try wearing a different aftershave for a few days (or perfume, ladies), and see what happens.

Are you saying my plasterdust/sawdust/paint scent is not going to fly off the shelves? Maybe if we get Norm MacDonald to pitch it.
