Funny! Friends developed and marketed one of the first modem devices way back when---the type where you put the phone in a cradle.

They could not sell the things until they added blinking indicator lights. They added them in yellow, green and red and all was well. The lights were never hooked to anything though. They just blinked on and off and provided great comfort though.
