"Out of Room" - Const. Mishap II

"Out of Room"!
You're out of room??! - have one of the "Mods" uh, er, delete my post!
I'll post again!
"Out of Room" - Pick-up truck or van?

Now - on with the story!

It's the 1990's
My brother and myself live in an old "ramshackle" farm house on Rt. 59,
South of Naperville, Ill.
It's OLD! - during remodeling we find piping for gas-lights.
Supposedly, it's one of the first, farm houses built in that area.

In the evening, I have to go over to a friends house and discuss what they
want to do with the exterior of their house.
Siding, some window replacements, front door.
Vinyl siding? - cedar siding? - insulation - trim colors (aluminum) ...
They know I'm too busy to do it myself (I would have loved to!)
However, I'm an estimator for the company I work for -
Also, I guess the word would be "Quality Control"! -
I can give them all their options and price ranges.

I'm there talking to them for a few hours -
We're coming up with a plan.
She asks me if I want to stay for dinner -
(I've been smelling the wonderful "fumes" coming out of the kitchen -
with minor "arm-twisting" - I say YES!!!)
An Italian girl that knows how to cook - Spaghetti!!!
(Heaven can wait - I'm about to get a taste of that, right here on Earth!)

We have dinner and discuss all their options -
(If only, all my "Sales" calls were this much fun - Yeah, sometimes, I
did some selling)
They had a very, good Chianti - I had a couple of glasses (2).
So, after a very pleasant time I leave to go home.
They live on the East side of Naperville - not a long drive.

I'm driving down Rt. 59 coming up to my driveway - my left turn signal is
on - I'm slowing down
I remember, the next day I have to go Northwest of Elburn, Ill. and I need a specific color of Rollex trim coil and matching caulk.
(We were Rollex distributors - we had all of Rollex's colors of coil: and
matching caulk "Solar Seal 900" - I've got white, bronze, black, brown
on-board - not the color I needed.)

So, I take my foot off the brake-pedal (I figure I can go to the shop, now -
it's about 10:30 pm - or do it in the morning.)
Since, I've got the keys to the shop and the warehouses - I do it now -
then I can get up and on the road at about 5:00 am, and beat the traffic!
Then - POW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I get rear-ended!
I'm glad I took my foot off the brake pedal!

I had installed a rather "substantial", 3/4 plywood partition (reinforced)
behind the front seats in my van.
My head snaps back into it - lights out!
I wake up and I'm rolling South on Rt. 59 - WTF???!!!
I see in my mirror the car that rear-ended me back there with steam
pouring out of the radiator and realize - accident!!
I proceed to back up - see what's happened.

"Cig" break!
(OK, OK - I'm trying to QUIT!)

Well, I get back there.
Pontiac Fiero (spelling?) - front end smashed!
Little car, meets the rear-bumper of 1 Ton van (Loaded!!! - with weight!)
Car loses!
Some scratches on my bumper -
Oh No!!

4 young dudes in the car - it was raining - I smell, I think the term is "Weed"
I go "nighty - night" briefly, again (I think I had my "Bell Rung"!!)
They're helping me up.
I ask if they're all OK.
They tell me no problems - we've got someone coming.
I tell them I've got to go to Oswego - they say sure, no problem!

I leave and get to the shop.
The owner comes into the office in the morning and finds me asleep on
the floor of the office.
No problem.
He tells me that this incident should be reported.
I'm thinking about it - I still have to go to Elburn.
I go to Elburn.
The more I think about it, over the rest of the day - accident - leaving the
scene - (no "bodily", injuries: except, me!) - property damage.
So, I call the Illinois State Police

They agree to meet me in my driveway.
I meet the State police officer - I get in the front, passenger's seat -
(I thought that was interesting - shouldn't I be the back seat??? -
that's usually, where I spend most of my time in police cars!!!)
Who pulls into the driveway???!!!
A Naperville, police officer and a Will County police officer!!!
They get into the back seat.
The fun begins!!!

Beer break!

The "Interrogation" begins!
Me with 3 police officers - "amateurs"!
Same questions - framed in different words - the usual stuff - "amatuers"!
This goes on for about a hour, to a hour and a half!
I think they're trying to break me!!!
I'm the only one that suffered any "bodily" harm (clocked in the head??!)

In college one of my majors was Philosophy - can you say "Logic" -
I thought you could!!!
It was fun watching them try to get me to say I was "drunk" -
I wasn't (2 glasses of wine, over hours!!!) -
they sure tried!

Well, it turns out that there was no accident reported.
There was no accident!
After, a hour to a hour and half of "inquisition" - nothing happened.
Ha, ha, ha!!!!

I had a friend in the Naperville police dept. - I asked him about the incident
he told me "off record" - that the kid that was driving was the son of a police officer.
No wonder there was no accident reported!!!

No human beings were harmed in the production of this story.

(A good writer??? - Fooled them again!!! - it takes a "fool" to fool anybody!! -
(Thanks anyway "titanoman"!)

Just telling stories!
I think I've arrived at the end of this story.
Happy Holidays!

rossfingal

(I'm not done, yet - Ha, ha, ha!!!!!)

(2nd chapter???! - I'm sitting in a police car, with 3 officers, - I go through my front door -
they all leave - no "ups, no extras" -
I'd say, that's a good second "chapter"!)
No, "incarceration"!
