Old Rickenbacker

When I was 15, my friend, Mark, had what he thought was a 1964 Rickenbacker guitar. Turns out its really a 1966. Anyhow, I bought it for $150, thinking that it was a cool guitar and that it would be worth a lot of money one day. Well, I just had the rear end of by truck rebuilt and now it's time for the transmission. I put the Rickenbacker on line and 4 people approached me with bids. It sold for $5,000.

It's nice to have the cash, but a chunk of it is about to go back out the door.

For those who may be interested it a Rose-Morris Model 1997. It was made in California, but it's a special export model that sold in (I believe) Canada, UK and Australia.

Cool- So you really just sold one tool to rebuild another.
but then it's always sad to lose a tool, especially a loved one.

Since I don't play anymore, I'm not losing much, but it is cool thing to look at once in a while. Oh well - cash is King.

I haven't talked to Mark in 20 years or so - just lost touch when I moved away. So, no, I doubt he will ever know how much it is worth.
