Hello all,

I am glad I bumped into this chat line as I am in the process of moving and looking to get as much advice as possible about finishing a basement.

We are looking to have the basement done as an 'in-law' apartment with separate entrance. We just got a quote yesterday for $58,000.00. Yikes!! I knew that it was not going to be cheap but that price got me grasping for breath.

We are going to of course get quotes from other contractors but if that is the price we will be looking at well, we will have to do some rethinking.

If anyone can help me out by telling me if this is the correct round about price, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Barbara

Sounds about right to me for an "in-law" remodel (kitchen, bathroom, full electrical & heat + etc).

Sounds reasonable to me as well. Lots depends on where you live but definitely get other quotes. I understand a typical basement upgrade to living space is around 30k or so but that doesn't take into account adding kitchen/bathroom. Be careful who you hire. I may be paranoid from watching too many episodes of Homes by Holmes. For something of this magnitude I would want a long term well respected contractor.
