Nascar 2014

Welcome race fans!

Well we got off to a slow start with a 6+hr rain delay but once they finely went green again all of that waiting didn't matter to me anymore... “Night Racing at Dayton Baby”!

There's only one purpose of this thread... and that's to talk NASCAR all season long...

Are there any NASCAR Fans here? If so, speak up and tell us what you like about this sport!

Nascar 2014

I am a auto racing fan and thoroughly enjoyed NASCAR race in Richmond when I lived in VB/Tidewater. The smells and excitement in the pits was great and talking to some drivers also was great.

Unfortunately, if you watch it on TV, it is about as exciting as having the TV on to the QVC or the Home Shopping Network, since it has about the same amount of commercials and you do not get handed over commentator to commentator with a 10 second script to try to stir up interest. The scripted crashes in the end of the pack just provide an opportunity for more prime air times for commercials before the frequent 1-2-3 restarts for a lap or so.

I will just go to some good short dirt track or asphalt 1/4 or 1/3 mile tracks. My preferred options are Formula 1 races (in person of the finances and locations are right) or Formula 1 races if I get up early enough to get a good, live commentary explaining what is really going on.

I will still continue watch some NASCAR races despite the commercialization, lack of real information and scripted finishes that take 15 minutes to get through.

Fan here. Enjoy most races but some just turn right and watch the fuel gauge.
I'm trying to get to California for the road race.

Darnit! 88 won

Don't like that team....

Sorry you feel that way Dick but I disagree and that's OK. We all enjoy what we enjoy! I enjoy American Stock Car Racing! Local dirt tracks is where I'm at any chance I get in the summer.

Commercialized or not NASCAR racing is at the top of the mark in this country and I love it!

There's nothing like being there for sure but saying that if you can't smell it then it isn't worth watching just tells me you're not a true fan.

I'm not an 88 fan either but he deserved the win! With the comeback of the 3 car this year if Dillon couldn't get the job done then it's nice that JR did.

#16 fan here! Was watching Greg win races at Portland Speedway many years ago!

Nascar 2014

a #3 still shouldn't be on a car. not yet. it soils the legend, and does NOTHING to advance the sport(what they were/are hoping for). do they honestly think putting a 3 on a car that they will make the original EARNHARDT fans happy ? NO WAY , bad move.

Gotta admit #3 is like the most sacred number to bring it back is not right. I don't care if JR's driving it. I hope it never wins a race. Would be great if it lost it's sponsors.

Nascar 2014

Started watching nascar a few years ago and decided to root for Joey Logano and team Penske. I wish nascar wouldn't regulate the sh&$ out of everything. Let the teams develop the cars and tweak them. I don't like seeing races decided by gas mileage. That being said, I was surprised at the Daytona race that it wasn't a single line freight train. The three wide racing at the startup after the rain delay was pretty exciting. My son is an auto mechanic and works for a local toyota dealership owned by Penske, and I started rooting for Logano when he was driving the Home Depot car, since I spend a lot of money there.

Nascar 2014

I've been into NASCAR for 20+ years and have always been a Mark Martin fan. Before that Friday nights in the summer (before we could drive) was me and my friends taking the bus out to Portland Speedway to to watch them run on a ˝ mile asphalt track (I think it cost $6 back then).

In the mid 90's there was a local guy making a name for himself at the track, his name is Greg Biffle. He later went on to be hired by Jack Roush of Roush Racing and continued to win a Truck Series and a Nationwide championship.

Mark Martin (my guy) ran for Roush and now our local star (Biffle) was on the same team. Needless to say Greg Biffle in the #16 Ford is the hat I wear and If he can't get the job done then anyone from Roush Racing taking the checkers is just fine with me.

Here's some goodies hanging on my shop. Front fender fron logano's car he ran in the Daytona 500 in February 2011. Rear bumper of the car he ran in the homestead race in 2012. Small section of the top of the front wheel well. Don't know what race it was in.

Me too...that was back in 06 or 07 I think. Speaking of Mark this was the first time that I can remember that he wasn't in the Daytona 500 and as far as I know he's not running any Cup races this year.

Mark has become a full time coach/mentor for Danica Patric. I hope that works out because that girl needs the help. Biffle would have won the 500 last year if she would have done what she should have on that last lap.
