My newest pet peeve


Generally speaking, if I spell wrong its due to my poor typing skills or this crappy keyboard ( some keys require extra oomph when pressing. I try to proofread and fix before posting, but don't always catch errors.

for some reason, I used to always type the word "the" as teh. I think my fingers have caught up with my brain for this word, at least. (or maybe my brain has slowed down, a definite possibility)

I for one do NOT think you are wrong. You can't really blame the kids for what the educational system lacks.

My newest pet peeve

And it's been going on for a long time. In my senior year of high school (1981), I was a teachers assistant (1st grade) for one hour out of the day.

One day the teacher had me correcting papers the kids had turned in. Then he wanted me to sit down with each one of the kids to show them what they did wrong. But he didn't want me to show them how to correct it (for example, draw the letter "B" so that it wasn't backwards). I don't remember all of the details, but I do remember thinking it was stupid to not teach them the right way.

He had an oddball classroom anyway. No desks. He had stuff all around the room (a mattress, castle, a few tables here and there, etc.) where the kids could sit. He believed they should be able to get up and sit wherever they wanted, when they wanted. No structure.

I think I'm leading this thread astray... sorry.
