My newest pet peeve

IDK...LOL...IMHO....WTF.......
Why is it in these rooms, rooms which people want to know real answers they find they have to "text speak"? Or perhaps better (not better) than that they have to text speak and do it without any punctuation or spacing. Isthiswhattheeducationalsystemhascometowhydomytaxd ollarsfundasystem

Or the three or four word questions. No pictures, no location, no model# or make.
Guess they think it's Google.

My biggest pet peeve.
Sideways pictures. Turn your darn picture right side up before you post it or email it to me.

I have to say I feel tour pain.
Best we can do is give good advise and tell them to quit it and our reasons why.
Will they? I dunno,
So many people are use to internet and know proper usage, while we all had to start somewhere and need help.

Oversize pictures…Pics so big that they stretch text so you have to scroll back and forth to read. It doesn’t just screw up the one post but the whole page, at least in my browser anyway.

That and paragraphs so big that the entire screen is just one big block of text. I don’t even bother trying, it’s just too much for my eyes.

I agree. Texting, in general sucks.

rossfingal 11-13-2012 09:42 AM

Well -
I don't do "Texting" -
(Unless, I'm driving a vehicle - then, I just put the vehicle on - "Auto-Pilot"! -
And, "Text" to my heart's delight!) :)

The problem is - many young people grew up with "challenged", reading
skills.
How do you learn how to write?
Pay attention in English classes (or whatever, language you're learning) -
READ a lot!!!

Easy on the TV, computer, video games -
Read some books, magazines, newspapers ...
You read a bunch of stuff -
you can get a good idea about how good or even, great writers -write.

As far as what "kwik" says - regarding these giant paragraphs - that you
have to scroll down because they fill your whole screen (and, more) -
If I'm interested in reading what's been written -
I copy and paste them into "notepad" and add my own "breaks".
So, my old, eyeballs don't fall out! :)
"OMG!", "WTF!", "Huh?!", "Say - What?!?", - "LOL"!! :)

+1 :)

Some of the TLA's I can handle....any time I see WTF, it's usually a good clue to not bother reading the post......

Pet peeves as it relates to this site?

1. Posters who don't know what a paragraph is.

2. Not doing a search first.

3. Poor spelling....we all make spelling mistakes...but when you see "wit" used several times.....well....

4. Using WTF....makes you wonder what their normal language is like.

5. The same post in 3 different places....and/or asking the same basic question about 5 different ways....like how to make a 240V tankless work with 120Vac.

6. Asking the price to do something.

7. One post wonders.....they ask a question and never come back.

Even when instant messaging and chatrooms were cool in the mid 90s, I couldn't bring myself to use internet shorthand. I still spell everything out on text messages, which since I got an iPhone with auto-fill, is much quicker.

As far as message board irritations, my big one is when a dude has a post with about 10-12 big pictures, then some idiot quotes that same post, showing all 10-12 pictures again, just to ask a four word question or say how good it looks. That, and run-on sentences.

I agree that text style diction is not necessary here on a forum where most users are sitting in front of a large keyboard, but then again fellas you are showing your age's.

Some of the younger posters are so used to text speak that it just naturally carries over for them. Shorthand was kind of needed when Blackberry was the major choice as you can only fit so many characters into a field before one was required to start a new text, effectively eliminating the benefit of texting. At that point you may as well hack out a more formal email.

Personally, I don't always want to nor do I have time to write out something grammatically correct when I can just say " c u 2tonite wen u get hm"

That's not a sign of age or being "hip" or whatever the slang is today, it's just a sign of being lazy and not caring. Proper grammer and sentence structure is still being taught in schools believe it or not. English is the hardest language to learn as it is meant to be spoken and written...this :censored: doesn't help anyone....except of course those too lazy to execute proper english.
