The province must have saved millions and millions in the snow removal budget this year. I won't hold my breath waiting for that to reflect back to us taxpayers

"Street Sweeper"!?!
What?!?
Seriously - at least where I live they sweep the streets; very, often!
Now if only we could get them to "sweep" the median between the
street and sidewalk - and our bushes!!
Nope - that's left to "Rossi", on "litter, patrol"!
(You wouldn't believe the stuff I pick up!)

You're grass looks a little "patchy"!
(Just like ours!!!)
Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
Still looks like a nice neighborhood though!!!

"RF"

(creeper - you better stop that - you'll turn "blue"!)

The whole place was dreadful when I bought it. The original owner did no maintainance at all. The lawn is/was infested with creeping charlie. I spent a lot of effort overseeding and fertilizing the grass to no avail. All those awesome lawn/ weed killer chemicals have been banned here for a while now. So. last fall I sprinkled Borax - the twenty mule team all around. It works really well, but you need a light hand when sprinkling.

Now the plan is to rake vigorously, and spread a ton of seed.

I'm not at all concerned

They do a really good clean up of road sand in the spring. We obviously don't have sidewalks but I see the crews in town with these hand held sweeper things that pushes the sand banck onto the rd for the trucks to pick up

I feel your pain!
We're in the "spade it up" - "rototiller", area now!
Oh, well - "no pain, no gain"!

I always hated street sweeping day when i lived in the city. It meant you had to find somewhere else to park (the driveway was full) which meant a long hike back to the house. There was always a public safety car following the street sweeper writing tickets to all the cars who had forgotten it was street sweeping morning.

No rototiller for me. I simply do not care enough about the end result.

Fertilizer and seed thats it. I also refuse to rake up leaves. Mulch'em with the mower

Around here -
they don't just write you a ticket -
they tow your car!
(We live a block from the "impound lot")!
They're very fast!

Out where I was the effect of the sweepers was negligible. Seriously seemed more like a revenue system than something that actually made the neighborhood look any better.

Here they take off a good couple of cm's of stuff off the roads. The neighbourhood kids can ride bikes and rollerblade without getting stuck in a pile

Around here they just let the rain wash the salt and sand away. You can tell because everyone's lawns have that yellow strip up close to the street. Some areas - where there are curbs - sure could use a street sweeper though.

You made a good point about not getting any money back on your taxes from the savings on snow removal. Realistically, they'll probably want to raise the taxes saying, "We have to pay extra to store the sand and salt we didn't use last winter".
