Mary moves to Nebraska

Lab girl was having the craziest dream. Two little voices shouting,"Lab girl wake up!" and talking mice jumping on her shoulder.

The dream faded in and out--once she dreamed that three mice were trying to open her cell phone and the big one kept cursing. "Who in their right mind would put such strong springs into the lid of the damn thing."

And the dream faded again.

"Stomp on the red button!" Mary ordered. "Well. what are you waiting for? The RED one! Don't you know your colors?"

The littlest mouse snapped to attention and pounced on the button and the phone came to life.

"Hello,sweetheart?" Asked her father.

"I'm not sweetheart,I'm Mary, are you lab girls father?"
"Huh?" was the answer.

"Lab girl! Your daughter? The lab girl? She's hit her head and keeps passing out."

"What ,who? Where are you? Hurt? " stammered the confused man at the end of the phone.

" Snap out of it and listen", said Mary very slowly. " Your daughters car slid off the road, She hit her head, my boys are trying to keep her awake. If I tell you what we saw before the car spun out do you think you can find us?"

Grandpa was back on earth--His daughter needed his help--right now--his truck could get through anything and he had his boots on already--

This he understood and was ready for action --the parts he didn't understand didn't matter.

"O.K.,I understand" he said. "What did you see before you crashed?"

"A narrow bridge over a creek and an old white church---we slid just past the church." said Mary ,relieved that he finally came to his senses.

" Can I see the car from the road?" he asked.

" I don't think so, but there is a tree. We hit a tree."

"I'm coming! I know where you are. Could one of you stand on the roof of the car and wave so I can see you?" He asked.

" Just hurry, and look, You'd never see us ,were just mice! Please hurry! "

Mary moves to Nebraska

Grandpa grabbed his heavy coat and a blanket for good luck ,His wife was still asleep despite his hollering at her--

His faithful truck fired up and off he went. The old church was only minutes away --he patted the blanket ,that was good thinking,he congratulated himself.

Narrow bridge--old church and a tree--and mice.
He thought of his daughter and saw in his mind the seven year old girl with the red microscope.

His needed a clear head---This Mary said she hit her head--that might not be so bad.

He turned on his brights and slowed down--there was a tree and tire tracks --

He leaned into the broken window to see a sight---his dozing daughter and five mice standing on an open cell phone on the seat.

They were all looking up at him when the littlest one jumped up and landed on the red button---

Dad listened while watching the oldest mouse talk.
"I'm Mary, these are my kids---You daughter is fine now, just sleeping. May we ride along with you?
We need a warm place for tonight, too,if you could?."

Grandpa cupped his hand and held it out for the travelers,"I've got to get my daughter to the house. Here ride in my pocket."

His daughter had slept through the night, tucked into the same safe bed that had been hers as a child.

The doctor was finishing up and assured them it was just a bad 'bump on the head'

"Let her rest for a few more hours before you open up the presents,eh?" said the doctor as he left.

The aging father leaned into the doorway and whispered to his sweetheart--
"Get some rest my little lab girl,I'll have a present under the tree for you when you're up."

Then he took Mary and her babies out to the kitchen and gave them a big plate of peanut butter and cheese to feast on - in appreciation of their phone call to alert him about the accident?

But the feast wasn't attached to a spring-loaded trap like the mice next door - in Bud's garage - encountered.

Just kidding. I couldn't help myself!

Mike, feel free to delete this post.

Dad walked into his daughters room carrying a shoe box.

"You have a phone call, sweetheart." Her dad said with a grin,"some children want to sing carols for you."

"O.K. Jump!" he whispered into the box."

Man, that was a good story Mike, you really need to write some books and that isn't a joke, you really are a good story teller. I can't wait to see what is next.

I don't feed them no high dollar cheese either. It's peanut butter or nuthin'. Hell even peanut butter costs an arm and a leg now days.

Mike you should tell your mouse friends they should stay at the neighbors house...my house could be a mine field for them.

Bud, are you still catching lots of mice or has it slowed way down? At one point you were providing us with a running count!!!!
