Marine Toys for Tots: Making A Difference

Marine Toys for Tots: Making A Difference-christmas.jpg

For the second year in a row, our contractors , over on ContractorTalk have come together as a community to donate their rewards points to a special user account that we call, Hope.

The first year they were able to bring together enough rewards points for us to donate, $1,500 to the Marine Toys for Tots program.

This year, the painters over on PaintTalk joined in on the fun and together they were able to make a $4,260 donation, all through our rewards points program!

A couple of folks have asked if we could start a Hope account here on DIYChatroom so that we could join in on making a difference for the kids next year.

It amazes me that this all started with one member trying to find a way to use their rewards points to help others and now it had spread to a 3rd forum here on DiyChatroom.

We have created our own Hope account. You can find it here.

If you would like to donate your rewards points to that account, you can do so by clicking on "Rewards" in the navigation bar at the top of the community and then by clicking on "Donate" or you can click here. Simply enter the user name, Hope and the amount of points you would like to donate.

Next year, shortly after Thanksgiving we will add up all the points in Hope's account and donate the cash to the Marine Toys For Tots program.

I've logged in as the Hope account so we have a place to watch it grow.

Competition, in these cases, is a great thing.

What are the rewards points worth on a $ vs. point comparison or do they use the points directly?

2,000 points = $20 which is the same as if you used them to get yourself an eGift card.

Marine Toys for Tots: Making A Difference

Great idea Cricket.

But I think I did something wrong. As soon as I donated, I got a PM with the following message...

gma2rjc,

gma2rjc has just sent you 3162 points to use in the rewards store!

You can visit the rewards store here:
http://www.diychatroom.com//rewards

Happy Shopping!

What did I do wrong? Did I send it to myself? To the left of this post, it still shows that I have 3,164 points so it looks like the donation didn't work.

Yup, ya sent them to yourself and you aren't the first to do that. It doesn't offer many directions.

1. Make sure to enter the name Hope.

2. Make sure to enter how many points you want to send.

3. Make sure to press donate points.

I knew those points would come in handy. You just got all of my 7506.

Back to zero.

Can't think of a better cause and what a great organization. The percentage that gets to the end user is phenomenal.

I was totally shocked when I saw the percentages.

In this day and age it is so nice to see a charity keeping it real.

For those wondering the breakdown goes like this.

97.4% program
2.2% fundraising
.4% overhead
