Living with a Beautiful Roomate

Update: It turned out I had to call the police on her, twice. This entire thing was a sham or at least I feel it was. The first week she pulled that no show with the paint and whatnot and I was upset. The following week she was supposed to call me after a weekend shift, on Saturday, so we could try again and again, nothing.

No call from her or anything. At least not on that day, again. I got ahold of her on Monday via text and asked if it was alright if I was to begin bringing my things over as when we last spoke she said that her sister had rented a storage unit and that it would be out by the day I called.

In her text reply she said, "Yeah, it's fine." Cool, I load my truck with all of my extra hvac tools from the garage which is a solid 8' truck bed worth of tools and expect to get this show on the Road.house.

Then she calls about an hour later and asks if I can give her two more days as her sister's stuff is still there. Say what? I hang up on her this time.

Next, I tell her I want my money back via e-mails and texts as she wouldn't pick up the phone. Next thing I know her HUSBAND picks up the phone and tells me that since I'm not moving in that there's going to be a penalty.

Turns out she is married through Islam (not recognized by US law) to some Arab guy who beats her. She had and has a restraining order on him but somehow he ended up with my money after coming back into her life.

I call the police, get my money back afer she says what her 'husband' had said," It's not until July!!!" meaning she was going to try and hold onto my money until then as obviously she used it, text her and e-mail her about how infuriated I am at her lack of intelligent decision making and that if she ever crosses paths with me again she would be up the creek like she has never known in her life possible.

Geez, I'm such a gullible fool. Oh well. Thought I'd update you all.

And I like the original story as well Rebecca, it's just too bad she wasn't who she said she was.

Cheers everyone.

I'm as much a romantic as you apparently are, pal. At least you got out of it *relatively* unscathed. Optimism for love can make for one heckuva entertaining story (and lesson) though. Been there, done that, although you've got me beat on the ending....wow! Didn't see THAT coming. Best of luck to you...

Not for what you think. I called her to find out about the girl I was going to move in with.

I did, however, bump into her and her friend at a restaurant in the middle of the day a few weeks ago. I think I said that already.
Myself and my boss were there for lunch, they were drinking at the bar, heavily. It was like 2 in the afternoon.

Thanks man. I'm over it although I do think that somewhere in the back of my mind I'm still wanting to move in!
