Lightning strikes pickup truck - couple inside lives

This is amazing. At the end of the video, there is an interview with the couple who had been inside when the lightning struck.

Lightning strikes pickup truck - couple inside lives

The holes it left in the road was unreal, my nephew's car was hit by lightening while he was driving it, never ran again, fried all the electrical wiring.

Actually, your chances of surviving a strike in a vehicle is really good. As long as your body is not the conduit to ground....no problem.

But those holes in the ground are impressive....good reminder that Mother Nature has the last say....

Lightning striking a 40 chevy doesn't effect it very much. After it kills the engine, the starter is engaged with the foot and we resumed travel and the sealed beam head lights even worked.

The nice thing about cars is they're basically a giant Faraday cage. Lightning just sticks to the outside, like the lightning shows at the museum of science.

You always think this happens to someone else and could never happen to you. Reminds me of all the times I was out in a aluminum fishing boat or canoe in a thunderstorm. Sooner or later your luck runs out I guess.

Lightning strikes pickup truck - couple inside lives

50 years ago I witnessed a lightning strike in the street in front of my grandmothers house. it melted the asphalt in a diameter bigger than a manhole, It was still too hot to touch 5 minutes after the strike.

You could see the different texture in the street years later until the city re -built the streets.

And most tires insulate the vehicle from the worst of the electrical damage.

In the late 70's I was in a wooden boat tied up to the gas dock and a bolt of lightning hit the river about 100' from dock. The sound was incredible. I will never forget it.

Years ago i woke up to find parts of tree branches on my garage. According to the tree guy, the neighbors tree was struck by lightning. He said the water in the tree came to a boil and the steam literally exploded the tree.

That happened to a great big Poplar tree my mom had in her yard. It was hit by lightning and there were big chunks of bark & wood all over the yard. It was the strangest thing. It seems like the tree guy told her the same thing about the water turning to steam, causing the tree to explode.
