lightning and fireworks

So I'm sitting in my kitchen and I'm hearing the town fireworks... every few minutes I notice a bright flash in the window followed by a rolling boom, and I think--wow the town really went all out this year if I can see it from here, I'm nearly two miles away!

I take a look out the window and quickly realize--not only are the town fireworks going, but mother nature has her own show going, and frankly she is kicking their butts in the sound department at the moment.

It's probably not very safe to be out in high school's field right now... I'm guessing it's one of the last places you'd want to be with the lightning flying...

What's also interesting to me is that no rain has started yet... just a light and sound show...

Sounds exciting!

Did you read about the computer gliche that ignited all the fireworks in San Diego at once? I guess the whole show was over in 15 seconds. Have to laugh but good nobody was hurt.

I just read about that....wowza! Had to be a pretty big boom. I read that people felt the vibrations several miles away through the ground.

And yeah, our local fireworks were also competing with mother nature...no rain, but huge streaks of lightning during and after the show. They launch them near the Duluth harbor... I'm lucky enough to be able to see them perfectly from our 3rd story. I tried taking some pics but couldn't time the lightning and the firework bursts quite right.

i thought I read somewhere most lightning strikes ( on people) happen in the minutes before a storm arrives and minutes after a storm has passsed.
