Question

Licensing

How does an experienced electrician get an electricians licence good for use in Indiana, Pennsylvania. My friend is interested. He has extensive education and experience from another country.

there is no licensing for an electrician in Indiana. You often need an electrical contractors license if you intend on running your own shop though. Each municipality controls the rules for such.

no idea about pennsylvania

What country from ?? if from UK or Internatial locations there are few extra steps to dealt with it.

I think Indiana is not super strict on it but don't quote me wrong the metro areas are very strict on that As far for Pennsylvania you have to check with the Dept of Labour or other means they will provide you the listing for requirement.

Merci.

Thank you both for your replies. (Bear with me, my first time in a chatroom.) The licence we look for is to work in the town of Indiana, in the state of Pennsylvania. Sorry for the confusion. And he is from Nigeria where they measure using the metric (or british) system.
Sorry for slow answers. I have limited computer access. It will take a little time to figure out this chatroom stuff.

thanks, mikky

Thank you all for your input !! I went to the Municipal Bldg and found what I needed. I think it was the Code office. For your amusement and/or contempt, in Indiana, PA a person needs to register as a home improvement contractor if he/she makes more than $500 per year. That's it! No other requirements for electricians. Small town America still exists and we like it!

Feel free to reply, I'll try to check in on your comments.
Thank you again, your support was great.
