ok. say the police get information that there is a body buried in your basement. obviously from before you lived there.

they then dig up your basement, or worse.

who pays to have the damage repaired :
1. if they find a body.
2, if they don't find a body.
if either really matters ?

Look at it this way. They made it easier to install that French drain system that you have been waiting to install, due to not being able to afford the labor to tear up the slab. It works better along the joke, where the father writes his son that due to his age and heart condition, he is unable to put in his garden this year. Son writes back telling dad to not dig in such and such place, due to that is where the bodies are buried. Fed's and local authorities show up and start digging up the backyard and find nothing. Dad writes son to tell him what happened, and son writes back that it is now okay to put in the garden.

yeah? great !!! i am now going to call and tell them there is a body under my basement !

but really. who pays to put your property back the way it was.

It depends on if you are the criminal or not. If you have a friend with access to Lexus Nexus, there are many a case instances on it that can give you the answer, along with if you do a search on past instances of improper location destruction.

I'm betting that if a body was found in your basement/back yard, repairing the damage would be the least of your worries!!!!!!

If they suspect there is a body, and don't find one, you may have to go to court and lose to find out who has to repair it.

One time when my son and I were returning from a week long kayak trip to Canada, we came through the border at Massena. I was not aware that about six months before we went through, there had apparently been a terrorist who went through with bomb making materials, undetected. Eventually the U.S. caught the would be terrorist, and determined that he had come through Massena. So the border patrol was pretty tense.

So here we show up in my beat up pickup truck with all sorts of camping gear in the back, foul smelling wetsuits, couple of kayaks etc. The border patrol decided to tear the truck apart. They didn't find anything. But they didn't offer to put the truck back the way they found it either. That was my responsibility.

My guess is if the police tear up your house based on reasonable suspicion that you have a body in your basement, and they have a warrant, they aren't going to fix it up regardless of what they find.

no, not really. there was a news report of the cops digging in a basement for a body from 30 years ago. that got me to thinkin....

i expect they will be responsible for NONE of the aftermath. as is the government, they don't care what/whom they hurt. they are ONLY out for themselves.

i expect that the insurance would take care of it. but what if, for whatever reason, there wasn't any insurance . the home owner just incurred 10's of thousands of dollars in damages. through no fault or their own.

I wondered the same thing the couple of times the feds went digging for Jimmy Hoffa - if they back filled all of the holes they made in people's yards.
