Just Wondering if this is happening to all here!!!

I joined the forum here this past week. After doing a search in my local area. I discovered that my website is being brought up under Contractor Talk on the web. Just wondering if anyone has checked to see if you are also being pulled into the miserable web maze? Just kinda sick of going places on the web and others latch onto you for their own personal gain. Not sure if it is a crawler from Google or if its a inside job. Anyone know??

Funny thing is that yesterday, you posted your personal phone number on this forum, and it didn't seem to bother you, and now you are complaining about this? huh?

....Anyways...Are you aware that Contractor Talk is basically this site's Parent Site? This site was started after that site was up. The owner of this site own's Contractor Talk. Alot of members in the trades on this site are members over there. There is a connection between the two sites.

Just Wondering if this is happening to all here!!!

Just trying to figure out how to not misdirect others that come on my website. Just because someone logs on my site.....doesn't mean that they want to be available to the www. I am not going to have people come on my site and then find out that I am using them for my own personal gain. It's a programming issue. A home owner probably doesn't want the world to know that they came to my website maybe!!?? As far as my phone number goes....I don't really care if anyone calls me. Just thought that it was funny that people looking for me will be directed to another site first. If you know what I mean. Just makes me wonder if anyone here knows this info. Guess I would like to hear some honest answers from the owners. I am not angry, just wondering what not to do with my sites in the future!!

I'm sorry, either I am misunderstanding you, or you aren't being clear, or you/we have some serious hijack issues

Could you be more specific?

And how on earth would the world know a homeowner came to your website?

Anyone who visits your website IS NOT intentionally being redirected to ContractorTalk.com

If you are talking about people punching in your name into a search engine, and listing at CT.com pops up, that's out of CT.com's hands....that's a search engine thing
Though you could remove your website name from the CT.com listing if you want

Basically this is the deal....people who log on here are ...as you said it.... are being hijacked and put on the www without them knowing it. I have been linked to Contractor Talk. Doing a local search I found myself through Contractor Talk. Just seems like someone out there is pulling content from Contractor Talk and using everyones name, website, or the like to direct them back to Contractor talk. I am setting up a secure line basically so that info in my chat or posts will not go to the www. LocalTradesman is basically a LOCAL ONLY site for the LOCAL people to reach without being taken out of my area that I designate. It's a programing issue..... Maybe it goes back to my Marine Corp Days as a 2651 MOS, Signals Intelligence. Without going into detail with specifics.....The internet has been around before there was an internet known to most people....if that makes any sense!! The lines of communication with code can be controled believe me. If you couldn't control it our Nations Secrets would be compromised. Thus Security is a big issue. I could care less if someone calls me or contacts me...but there are advantages to being a secure line. By the way....nothing I have said will compromise the national security. If you go to Marine Corps 2651 MOS may help you. Semper Fi Jarhead out!!

Just so I understand, you're complaint is that when you type "Localtradesman" into a search engine, it brings up CT.com (where you use the username "localtradesman"), before it brings up your commercial site. Is that right? If this is the problem, it has nothing to do with CT.com.
Search engines just look for sites containing your search term, and then they rank them by a number of factors, but I think the biggest factors are traffic, and the number of sites that link to that site. I'd be willing to bet that CT.com has waaaay more traffic, and a lot more sites linked to it than your businesses website. If you don't want this to happen, don't use your web address as your username, and don't post it on high-traffic sites. There's nothing the owners of CT.com can do to prevent search engines from finding what you type on their site.

Does that explain it?

This is real simple. Our websites carry more weight in Google and other search engines than your website does... so when someone doe a keyword search looking for your company Google ranks our site first.

REALLY EASY FIX FOR THIS: Change your username so it's not your company name and this will go away in a few weeks.

If you would like to change your username just contact me by going here; http://www.diychatroom.com/sendmessage.php

Thanks.

Nate....pleasure to have you on board!

I was wondering how long it would take for you to jump in here. I am completely aware of whats going on...its just that I perfer to give people the option of being avilable to the www or not. Prevents misconduct. Anyway thanks for letting me know how your system operates. I am looking up some other things from here if you don't mind. Unless I am talking to the wrong person, you are the owner, correct?? Friends call me "The Col."

Yes, I (Nathan) run the company that owns these websites. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions and I'll try to help you out. Sometimes the internet can be an interesting place but I have no interest in stealing traffic from tradesmen... believe me. My whole goal is to help tradesmen which is why I run these free sites.

It's not that you could steal anything from me unless I wanted it to be. I know the premise here. I'm just saying that everyone here is and can be put out on the net through you and I am setting things up so that no one has to worry about being taken on the net in a big cluster F_ _ _ _ on my sites. So at least I know that I can generate through you though, Cool!!
