Increasing Prices

Over the years, I have bought thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from Box Stores such as Lowes and Home Depot.
Lately, I have found that I can purchase same item from an independently owned store for less! This is not true with every item but I think a person should have a general idea of price before purchase.
I think a lot of people assume that a bigger store will have cheaper prices and they don't bother to check. Might be that they are in a hurry and don't have the time

I always hit my local stores first before going to a box store. Even if I do spend a little more on the merchandise I feel better about supporting local businesses and I save a TON on gas. The folks at the local store are also easier to get help from and frequently have used the products they are selling. Money spent at local stores also stays in the community which is good for everyone.

I don't even have a local store near me
I have visited the local lumber store but they have been little to no help
Hardi Plank siding they were 50% more in cost
HD is 3.8 miles from my house, True Value is 10.5 miles away, ACE is 5.3 miles away - have not been there its located up very busy Rte 18
Lowes is 2.59 miles away, right across the street from the lumber store
Lowes is a newer store & the employees do not seem to know much so I do not go there much
Took them 1/2 hour to look up the Hardi plank pricing

My favorite hardware store is 11.6 miles away
Too far for quick trips, small items
But I have bought several large orders from them, LVL's, I-joists & other odds & ends
