Impossible to open packages

haha. I got the biggest kick out of reading this!

I have the same problems but thought it was cause I was female so it's reassuring to read about men having the same problem.

My wife and I had to team up to open my daughter's Lalaloopsy doll on Christmas morning. It had about 35 million tie wires holding it in. I began to wonder if it was filled with TNT and would explode if it moved at all in transport.

Mike, my keychain bottle opener has a grip for opening twist top bottles. I have to use it more than I care to admit.

I opened 2 full size Loopsy hair dolls and 1 Ace Fender Bender doll on Christmas morning. It is quite a chore to get the doll free being wired, glued, taped, tied, etc. What do they think is going to happen to the doll?

I installed the ideal bottle/cap opener in my kitchen, - It is a slip joint pliers that resides in the knife and tool drawer. Works for soda to champagne bottles.

That image is on a local plumbers website. I don't know the story behind it though, but I would imagine someone left the doors open all night....

Love my channel locks! I've opened lots of pipe glue cans with them. I'm ashamed to admit I never considered having a pair in the kitchen though

Impossible to open packages

I read that the story behind the picture is - a family went on vacation for a week during a cold-snap. While they were gone, a water pipe in the ceiling of the garage burst and the water sprayed out and froze. I'm not sure if that's the real story, but I read it online, so it must be true... .

As far as the packages being hard to open, does anyone remember years ago, walking through the toy department at the store and seeing toys out of their boxes, packages ripped open, etc.? I always figured that's why they make them more difficult to open now.

I wonder how much it adds to the price of each toy.

Rofl! This is some funny stuff. Even more so BC I thought I was the only one who had these problems. Good thing I have grandkids to help me occasionally!

manufacturers use psychologists to study human behavior as to what people find attractive. if the utility knife is in a fancy shiny plastic package with colorful pics etc then the average person may be tempted to buy it as he walks by it in HDepot or wherever. if it is just in a bin with a price sticker then it is not so attractive. advertisers do that all the time and it works.

we used to get water pipes in garages bursting if there is a bedroom/washroom above it and a draft got in the space of the pipe. nowadays the building methods are better and they run the pipe thru the attic where it is buried in better insulation I believe. pex pipe is better and apparently it can withstand one freeze/thaw cycle w/o damage, unlike copper.

I hate them/hated them. Worked in a hospital with drafts in walls and huge office towers and the last thing you want to deal with is frozen pipes or heaters in doorways etc. Shutoff valves that don't work etc etc etc. Guess I was more patient then, now I am old and grumpy.

So much goes into liking frozen pipes---the condition of my wallet is the biggest factor---

One winter had two regulars go on vacation at Christmas---and temperatures dropped to the bottom of the thermometer---

One blew up above a sunken living room and gushed for several days---

The other, the customer accidentally turned off the heat---that house froze so solid that flooding was minimal---but every pipe--faucet and toilet burst.

Kept us busy for a while-----yes, I like frozen pipes.

I have a house flipper client- he had a house that was heated with hot water.
I did the usual plumbing flipper stuff on it- all's good.

Well the house sat empty while on the market. A few weeks ago I get a call from the frantic flipper at 8 pm saying his whole house was frozen solid- heating and domestic.

He confessed to accidentally turning the boiler off. We talked through the worst case scenario and prepare for the worst(the house was in closing by this time)
Turns out he only had 3 breaks- lucky guy...
