Dear Handy Vinny -aka- Ebenezer Scrooge,

As someone who likes to read, I suggest you try reading the book that was written about you-

A Christmas Carol -by Charles Dickens

Somehow, I can't imagine your story having a happy ending, though.

I bet it would be awesome to fill that with hydrogen or helium and have it float in the air.

Now THERE is a thought
They aren't exactly air tight
There is a guy who made his own hot air ballon to raise lights about 30-50' into the air

The problem with banning things that bother us, but are harmless, is that you are creating a law based on a few people's opinions.

You don't like your neighbors Christmas display, so you get a law passed saying he can't have one.

Next year, the 4th of July comes along and you are proudly displaying your flag. The neighbor down the street cries, "I'm offended by your flag!". Do you want him to have his friends on the city council pass a law saying you can't display it?

As sick as it sounds, this is already happening in the United States. Some Americans can't fly the flag on their own property.

Vinny, have you tried talking with your neighbor? Maybe he'd cut back on the amount of time he has the lights on.

Readers,

We have reached an impasse. Some of us endorse the above-mentioned style of Christmas decorating, while others subscribe to my more conservative position on the matter. The important thing is that we all continue to remain civil in the threads when we engaged in respectful disagreements.

Now, if someone comes to my house to get me to sign a petition to get rid of Gubmint abuse and Gubmint waste...I will sign that one.

Christmas decorations, and their use, is everybody's right to free speech, and that needs to be defended at all costs.

Thank you for your opinion, but, again, several people on this thread had sympathy for my view on the matter.

Also, I would like to thank everyone who PM'd me to voice their support for conservative and traditional Christmas and holiday decorations.

This is actually not historically accurate. Christmas carolling goes back to the Patristic Period of the Ancient Church, c. 430 A.D., which would make it, roughly, 1580 years old.

I think the problem is not that you don't like them, but rather that you'd go through the trouble to try and get it banned. I have not seen any reason listed in any of your responses except that you don't like it, seems childish and selfish to me to try and ruin it for everyone else. if no one liked it, there would be no decorations. you think it's distastful, so have decided to go out of your way to rain on everyone else's parade
