You are now throwing other dynamics into the equation... but I'll bite; If the owner/RO of the vehicle places a camera with audio recording capabilities inside and has passengers (friends/family) in their vehicle, AND does not notify them they are being recorded then YES, you're correct - THIS IS A CRIME and punishable. However, being inside a vehicle affords an expectation of privacy. Tinted windows, soundproofing doors, etc. shield the outside from hearing/seeing whats going on inside the vehicle.

The exceptions are public transportation; taxis, buses, etc because now these are considered "mobile businesses" and public places - no different than a liquor store.

This should have been your first clue as to the discrepancies in this story. iPhones do not have removable memory "Chips". They have removable simcards, which only store carrier/subscriber information, and offer no means of off-site storage.

No. I'm referring to ddawg's camera recording the conversation of people in their personal cars outside of his house, without the people knowing they're being recorded.

If the windows are rolled up and he has the capability of listening 'through' them then YES, he's violating the law. If they are parked in front of his home and talking LOUD enough (regardless of windows up/down) that any lay person nearby would otherwise be capable of hearing, without any amplified devices, then he is NOT violating any laws.

Must have been one of those liberal videos. There are however a ton of California videos of people recording the police. They don't seem to like it very much.

Regardless..getting back on topic...those flowers don't have a lot to say..lol..

If the only thing you have caught over the years is a teenage girl who didn't set one foot on your property and wacked a flower why even bother with such an elaborate system. Oh and an elderly mentally challenged old fellow who was gathering peoples pop bottles...no doubt for a meal..

You should have given him a banana instead of a jail sentence

Of course there are tons of videos of Officer's 'not liking it very much'. As much as I try to explain, you will never understand unless you do the job but PEOPLE around you pose so many threats.

A perfect example; http://www.policemag.com/videos/chan...ffic-stop.aspx

This Officer pulled over a car for a traffic violation. An "onlooker" subsequently attacked him with scissors and had no relation to the person being pulled over. Now I won't comment on the Officer's after actions, because I have my own personal opinions about his response, but this just goes to show that when there are people surrounding or 'onlooking' Officers attention are diverted from the main issue and now divided to encompass those around.

There are many examples, and unfortunately fatal ones, were cops were attacked or killed while on a call/traffic stop by someone not involved. This is why people standing around and looking/recording are seen as a threat.

Now, I won't be naive and say there are no crooked cops who have heavy hands however I will say the majority do not go to work everyday looking to 'lay a beating' on someone.

Anyways, I think this argument has been beaten - no pun intended - to death and I will end with this.

While I do not necessarily agree with how Dawg handled the situation involving the three juveniles, I fully support his use of audio/video recording! oh, and I love his 2-story build!

This thread should be moved to the "controversial" section.

Jayse..... I'm from Co, a one party state. When I've been building in Cali recently, we pulled a very ignorent and authoritarian BI.

He legislated things to us that were just plain wrong... but for certain reasons, we initially chooze not to press the issues with the AHJ...

but we were worried that should we pull a different inspector, and we had followed the other inspectors orders, we'd have a problem.

Got so bad... I finally carried a recorder in my pocket... but I guess Cali is a both party consent.

(We finally did a 4 page write-up to the AHJ.... ceased all problems, but we initially did not know if it was the entire department or just one bad inspector we were dealing with).

I'm not sure I understand the idea of both party consent, when privacy is not the issue. Seems that when someone is telling you something, you should be able to prove what was told to you... an oral contract or promise is still enforceable.

But I digress, and drop the derail.....

Hey how about the fact that they destroyed someone else's property. Maybe since you didn't buy it, plant it, water it, weed it, fertilize it, and take care of it it's just a flower.

True..not those flowers, but one summer a kid down the road opened my gate and went into my backyard veggie patch (she didn't ask first) and was looking for a snack.

She pulled out a carrot. It was too small, So she pulled another. Still too small. and down the row she went. It didn't occur to her that none of them were ready yet. I found the entire row of carrots yanked and dumped.

Frustrating but what are going to do?

And in the big scheme of life..it is just a flower...relax..
