How much would this portico cost me?

Hi,

I've had my heart set on adding a portico/door overhang to the front entrance of my home since we bought the house 7 years ago. We're getting ready to have the house painted and I thought now might be a good time to investigate getting this portico installed. However, this is NOT a DIY project for me or my husband - we're looking to hire a carpenter to design, construct and install this. I'm totally ignorant as to what materials are required for this, but this portico will require a hip-roof style roof with shingles, some sort of crown molding with a dentil feature, and 2 posts/columns/pillars. Nothing too fancy.

I have NO idea how much this will cost, so before I get my hopes up, I'd appreciate ballpark figures from those of you who might have experience with this type of construction. $2000? $5000? More? Less?

that should be cheap unless you go overboard with the collums. as we are DIYers and not contractors, you probable wont get a quote,.

Looking at your detail $2000 should be more than enough.

Thanks for the replies! I emailed some local builders to ask for ballpark estimates. One responded $5000, another responded "under $5000" and another said $2500. I'm hoping to get more responses to get a better picture.

Do you think I should I seek the services of an architect for this portico? If I could find something similar in an existing plan, that would be great, but I haven't been able to find anything of help on the internet. I'm just wondering if I'll need to provide a carpenter with a detailed plan or if they can handle it on their own. I worry a little about proportions and scale, but I guess if I'm comfortable with my mock-up then I can probably figure those things out for myself.
