I am on a few of the others, weeded them down, and this is one of the best.
Why? Here you can get the opinions of contractors, in the field, today.
I wa in the office today due to tax prep. I can't wait to swing a hammer again.

Yeah, welcome, toolbag! This a pretty good place as far as I can see. Although TeetorBelt kinda comes down hard if you're not 100% business. I think he's a nice guy, though! Let me know if you need a new custom avatar, and I'll see what I can come up with.
Speakin' O that, why don't you have an avatar, TB? Just say the word, and I'll whip you up a good one! I do everything from Pirates to Johhny Depp, to guys with patches on their eyes and bird poop on their shoulders! Don't be shy, now, just Ask!

Well I've always wanted a shiny new avatar but was always scared to make one. If ya can't make it with a hammer and nails I guess I'm screwed... Screwed, get it!! Har de har! Are you really a pirate? Maybe I can make a nice leg for ya on my lathe and trade for that avatar??

I kinda like this whole pirate thing. I'm in. Is it okay to just jump in or should there be like a hazing and certain tasks that must be performed in order to be amongst the crew.' ARGGGGGHHHH

For you wannabe's, I have personally built a 1/2 scale model of a 1680's full brig. 42 ft on deck, 55ft. LOA, 8-6# guns. I still own one of them plus some other parts. Care to swap actual squarerigger knowledge or are you just airbags?
Easy one first. You are moored to a pier that faces due North. You're layed Stb. side to. It's New England, the wind is from the ENE, blowing snot. The harbor is to the port and the inlet east. We're headed for South America and winter is coming. How do we get on our way?
I want rigging and helm orders. One wrong and you're on the rocks.
Everybody can participate. Let's see who get's us out of the channel.

If it were me, I'd jump off that damn boat and take a taxi to the airport. I'd be in South America before you got your hatches battened down and decks swabbed, picking up a load of hooch that could choke a horse.

OK, here goes - "All hands, this is the captain speaking! Report to the tavern until we get a decent shift".
I'm just guessing here so be gentle. With the breeze blowin' stink from the ENE you'd probably be lucky in that rig to make headway sailing much, if any, east of north. So you'd have to get the bow through the wind, at the dock no less, and make way steering, let's say, 355? Once you did some northing you'd jibe and steer about 135 for the inlet? Am I close? If so, I'll work on the rigging and helm orders. If not, I think I'm keel down on some Block Island granite.
