Home addition cost per square foot

I'm looking to put an addition on a home in the Washington D.C./Baltimore area and looking for a very general ballpark of a price per square foot.

Does anyone have a ballpark figure of a price? I know it will depend on what goes in it (kitchen, bathroom, bedroom etc), but I'm just looking for a broad, general figure.

Ideally, I'd be looking to have the contractor do all the structure, side, etc, but I'd take care of the finishing (insulation, drywall, electrical, etc) myself.

Can anyone give any ballpark figures for what I'd be looking at here without requiring too many specific details from me (since I don't have the whole thing completely planned out yet)?

So what would I need to get a ballpark figure? Drawn out plans and detailed blueprints? I'd like to get a price range before I go nuts putting too much working into the planning of all this.

Let's say I want to add a 20'x20' addition from the house that extends from the ground level to the second floor. This space will be used for bedrooms. Does this help at all?

I calculate Renovations/Additions to be about 150% of new construction. Ballpark figure.
Find out what a 2 story home costs per foot and add half again.
Around here, costs are in the $200+/ft range for 'typical' homes, although I have worked on homes in the $1,200/ft cost, too.
