Hole in drain pipe - You've got to be kidding me!

Here's what I discovered when we were prepping to leave the house last week, for the holidays. I cleaned out the fridge, loaded the dishwasher, and went under the sink for the dishwasher detergent. And Low! and Behold! a Christmas miracle. A hole appeared in the drain pipe of my sink and has been leaking slightly for god-knows-long (enough to damage the wood of the counter bottom). :furious: EZ enough fix, but it was catastrophically bad timing. Turned off the water, turned off the DW, and left for Christmas.

You can see the small oblong hole above the wrench handle. For the life of me, it looks like someone banged the hole in the pipe. Home again tonight, so I guess I know what my first project tomorrow is....

Brass does not rust, but it does corrode and rot. I don't see a ding or evidence of it being pushed in, soooo, rot/corrosion.

The Grinch did it, trying to ruin your Christmas.

Chastise the hubby for dinging your pipes ?
With the age of your house possibly hit a while ago & then rusted out from the inside
They don't make the stuff as thick as they used to
Mines still the original drains from the 50's

So - how complicated can replacing a piece of drain pipe be....

HAH!

EZ as pie, so long as you don't count the 2 hours lost to getting a flat on the way to the plumbing supply place.

While I was tinkering around with the plumbing I also replaced the cartridges on my RO filter and performed other general maintenance.
