Has anyone ever heard of "Freecycle.com"? It is fantastic around here. Anything and everything, FREE.
My wife has about 70 tutors working for her with underprivileged children. We snag desks, tables, and chairs off Freecycle. And I refurbish them to give to the families of these children. Costs me a little glue, a knob or a pull, some stain, and a bit of elbow grease. The kids love having their very own study place.

the other day i decided to stop at a sale and see what was there. i ended up buying a "broken" office chair for 8 bucks. that was a bit steep for a broken chair. however, the base was good and was the same base as the broken one on our home office chair. swapped the bases and 5 minutes and 8 bucks later i had a fixed chair and a very happy wife.
