Be daring! Just grab a shovel and dig!

coconut pete has the right idea,

dig a few long holes, fill with steel,bolts,mud...follow concrete with sticks of lumber, stick some wood on top and call it a roof.

Get some plywood and nails, and put it together. Don't bother cutting, just go in 4 or 8 foot increments, that's why plywood comes in those sizes. ;)

With all of the advice given, I'd go with jbfan's.

Seriously, I'd start with a trip to your local building permit office. If you live in a city there will be restrictions. Minimum distance to the property line is the first that comes to mind, but there will be more. Knowing what is not allowed may be a good first step.
