Furnace Install Cost

Help? We currently have an old forced air furnace (propane) for an 1100 SF home. We are an adding 842 SF addition. We are debating on 95% efficient forced air and adding duct work for the addition. Cost for this? Or any idea of cost if we changed altogether to a boiler but would need whatever for every room in the house? Thanks for your help!
This is a 3BR, 2 bath if that helps.

Furnace Install Cost

Hi and welcome to the forum.

First off, not enough info for us to make a call. Rough guess? 5 grand.
Do not accept first offer from any furnace installer. Get multiple quotes. They WILL vary greatly.

Only contractors in your area can tell you the cost.

So get estimates from them.

Furnace Install Cost

I'm pricing the same thing for my house. An unexpected factor was my hot water. If I take the old furnace off the shared chimney (by installing a high efficiency one with a PVC exhaust) that will leave my hot water heater all alone on the chimney, and to do THAT I'd have to install a flue liner. Kaching. If that's your situation too learn more by Googling "orphan hot water heater"

The flue can't be more then 7 times the cross section of the water heaters dilution hood breech. Meaning a 3" hood can't be attached to a chimney that has more then 49 sq in of cross section.

if the chimney is an outside chimney, Then even if its only a 7", it still needs a liner.

Generally 95% furnaces are installed with a horizontal pvc duct out the side of the house along with an accompanying intake.

Usually they run through a rim joist and slope and support must be right.

If that is your case, you might be able to use the old tin flue for just the water heater.

The pros will jump in to give you mare accurate information.
