Furnace capacity/price comparison

I accepted a quote to replace my gas furnace with an 80K BTU furnace - 95% 2-stage American Standard. Only after accepting the proposal, would they do a manual J calculation. After they finally did the calculation, it showed heat loss to be 38K BTU, so they said they would recommend that I go with a 60K BTU furnace instead of the 80K and that it would cost me $75 less. I don't have specific wholesale pricing data on American Standard furnaces, but it seems to me that it should be more than $75 difference between those two furnaces. I feel like my contractor already has me on the hook for the job and now doesn't want to charge me their "normal" price for the 60K furnace. Comparing to Goodman furnaces that you can buy online and see prices, it seems there is at least a $300 difference between a 60K and an 80K furnace. Anybody have any thoughts?

Actually. Your seeing how much more the online places charge for just a slightly larger furnace. That doesn't cost them but a few bucks more.

There is very little price difference between an 80 and a 60,000 BTU furnace. Same blower and blower motor, same control board, and gas valve. Usually 1 more cell, and a longer manifold.

So that online place is making good money when they sell a 80,000 BTU over a 60,000.

PS: moved to off topic. Since its a contractor install question.
