The thing is, anyone can get hacked. It's just a matter of how much the hacker wants it, and how much time they put in.

I think the big problem here is that the hack happened back in February, and we're only hearing about it now. Companies should immediately disclose this sort of information.

Sometimes they don't know immediately. A good "hack" would leave no evidence of having occurred. Sometimes it takes a long time before audit trails reveal the sort of unauthorized access actually happened.

Was it Anonymous this time? They have certainly have some run-ins with eBay before ... Or perhaps that was Amazon...

But ye, these guys are powerful. They can hack into most sites. Do you remember when they hacked into The Sun newspaper in the UK and posted that Rupert Murdoch was dead!?

The scary thing is when they start hacking into government sites. Good news is, they are mainly against The Man, as opposed to just clever thieves out to steal money and personal data.

They are planning this here for Rio:

Regarding the ebay thing, I think it could have been a lot more serious than it was. I mean, I think it was more like they were just showing their strenght, saying - 'look what we can do ...!' Still a little unnerving though. My wife had some jewels from here on her account and apparently the hackers could have essentially sold these off to anyone a dollar! Really makes you wonder, perhaps it realls is time to keep our cash under our mattress and stick to the highstreet!

make sure to change your password. I have had my account hacked before and they start selling a bunch of fake items and it is a pain to get it fixed.

I've had all my accounts hacked on EBay, Amazon and Craigs List.
I check my accounts and see Someone selling a horse trailer using my account and I'm starting to get calls about it.
I've never even owned a horse trailer.
A lot of the ads I've responded to are spams also.
I'll send you a certified check and have someone pick it up, I'm stationed over seas, just send a Western Union money Gram and once received you can pick it up.
One that stood out was someone selling a 2012 skid loader for $2000.00. When I contacted him he told me a contractor left it in his yard a year ago and wanted it gone.
So he was selling stolen property. I called the cops and they could have cared less.
