"DIY" - Truck Driving!

Well -
I've got some "clown", tail-gating me - 50 ft. trailer.
(This is the one who wouldn't let me get by, earlier)
I'm doing 55 to 65 mph.
Time for "Fun"!!!
I start to slow down - eventually, I'm doing about 20 to 25 mph.
That person is still "tail-gating" me!
What a fool!!

I hit the "Hooks"!
I'm watching in my mirror - as that person with a look of "utter", terror! -
is going to have an "up-close" and very, "personal", meeting with the
"back-end" of my trailer!
I "drop" a few gears - put my foot in it - I'm gone!
No accident!
Yes, I had learned how to drive, that machine!

Merry Christmas!

"DIY" - Truck Driving!

Before I was so, "rudely", interrupted (thanks Mr. "1943" - strange, last name?!?)
We're going to So. Calif. from Yakima, Washington.
Very, early in the morning.
We become a part of a group "Semis" (15 to 20) - Yeah - "Breaker",
"Breaker", "Good Buddy" - we've got ourselves a "Convoy"!!

The "Convoy" decides to "pick up the pace".
We can't hear the traffic on the CB-Radio - ours is "kaput".
I use hand signals to let my fellow "Convoy" members know - we don't
have any "ears".
They get it.
We're "slip-streaming" - they're doing really, good "sling-shot" work -
rotating who's going to "break-ground".
They're changing places, constantly - somebody is way out in front of
us running "point".
65 mph. becomes, 75 - 85 - 95 - 100.
I'm finally in 2nd. "Overdrive" (13 speed, "Road-Ranger"!)!

I'm watching my gauges - speed, tach, oil temp/pressure, axle temp. -
the faster we're going - the better my readings are!!
We're finally up into the the 115 to 120 mph. range.
This "Kitten" is "Purring"!!
Yah-Hooo!!
It's still got legs!!!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! - one and all!!
(Yeah - even the "Moderators"!)

"Dr Jimbo" -
Concerning - "who's the idiot here?!" -
You didn't have to agree with me so quickly!!!!
I resemble that remark!
(Rough, crowd in here!)
Merry Christmas!

"frenchelectrician"
Yeah, that one is a "screamer"!!
Merry Christmas!

We're "boiling" down the road.
Not sure for how long - didn't have a watch - had the AM/FM radio off -
Lonny was in the "sleeper", catching some "winks" - didn't want to wake him.

We fly through Oregon - no encounters with the police.
Coming up to California -
(Even, us "rookie", drivers knew about the Calif. State Police!)
I"m watching the other drivers to see if there's any "signals" - as they
pass us, while they're "rotating", positions in the "convoy".
One comes up next to us - he's got his interior light on - he does a quick tap on his "city" horn to make sure I'm watching him.
He gives me the "thumb across the throat" gesture - then raises his right
hand and starts "patting" the air and lowering his hand.
Time to drop the "pace"!

The driver in front of me starts doing very, rapid taps on the brakes -
making sure I got the message - I start doing the same.
We all start slowing down - increasing the interval, between trucks.
(What??!! - you don't think, that 10 to 15 feet is enough - when you're
doing 115 to 120 mph. ?)

Lonny wakes up.
Finds out we're getting ready to enter Calif. - What?!!
I, of course, don't tell him the truth -
"It was some type of - "time-warp"!
(See the movie "Nimitz", with Kirk Douglas!)
I think he knew!

(No people, places, or things were damaged, in the production of this
story!)

Merry Christmas!

Survived, that little, "escapade"!
Thinking back - ("Hind-Sight", is "20-20"!)
I wasn't scared then - it scares me now!!!!!

What would have happened if someone "popped" an "injector"? -
"popped" a tire??!!
Splat - Splat - Splat .... !!!!

Sitting here - waiting for the "resident", "Bard" to continue.
I've got some more "snippets".
However, I'm waiting for some "real" stories!
(Mine happened - they're "real" - they're just "sketches"!)
(I want to see some "Paintings" - not "sketches!!)

(I'm hearing drums again!!!)

Hope everyone had a very, Merry Christmas!

Happy New Year!

I love a good story, I guess it goes back to when I was a kid growing up in the country, before TV. We did have an old battery powered radio that we could sometimes get to listen to the old stories told by the masters of the old days. The stories were told like you just said, painting a picture, and a good story teller can really paint a great picture. Not blowin smoke or trying to make points, just telling the truth, you and Mike can really paint the pictures with your words and I for one appreciate it.

Jim, My dad love the old radio shows---I was raised back when there were still a few on the radio--Johny Dollar--Gun Smoke--Suspense and a few others---

I still tune in some of the oldies late at night----It's great to let the imagination fill in the stories.

I really enjoy reading mike's and your's stories. I read the off topic section more than anything now. I belong to a few other forums and I wish there were story tellers like the two of you!!!

Thanks!
"Can-O-Worms"
Don't put me in the same league as "Mr. Mike"!

I can't "hang" there!

I've "heard" that "Mr. Mike", thinks that he doesn't know how to write,
or come up with stories!
("I heard it through the grapevine!")

Ha, ha, ha!!!!
Nothing could be further (farther) from the truth!!! (Spelling!!! - Arggh!!)
(The Truth - You can't handle the Truth!!!!)
(Thanks J. Nickelson!) (Spelling - Again!!!)
Arrrrgggghhh!!

Happy New Year!!!
