Thank you, DM. I started this thread, not only because I am for the 2nd amendment, I just wanted both sides to realize how poorly written the "assault weapons" ban of 1994 was and how poorly written the proposed new law would be.
I mean, they both are based mostly on the cosmetic look of the rifles and not the functionality.
I would love to see stronger background checks, but criminals will find a way to get a gun, no matter the law.
Did you know that 25 states allow open carry and that 80% of gun homicides are in the states that don't allow open carry?
What does that mean, I don't know.
If you are in favor of more gun control, tell me why you think new laws will work. I will listen. I would like to see an open, honest discussion.

He's right. God bless our police officers, but the truth is, they can't be everywhere all the time. They can't know that someone is in your home, threatening your or your children's lives, until someone gets to the phone and dials 911. And even then, it all depends on how far from your house they are until they get there. By then, it may be too late.

Just recently, in Arizona, I believe, a 12 year old girl called PD and her mother to say someone was breaking into their house. The perptrator made it through the whole house and to the closet she was hiding in. She fired her mother's gun through the door wounding the perp. Pd and mom got there afterwards and were able to arrest the guy. This is how it should end. i believe the perp carried a knife to the gunfight. I'm foggy on all the details.

That long here in town and out in the county, they don't even have a deputy on duty from 2 am to 6 am. If they get a call, the dispatcher has to get someone up.

15 minutes is an ideal response time. By the time 911 is called, the 911 operator writes a ticket and it is passed on to the dispatcher. The dispatcher has to dispatch a car. So 15 is what would be quick response!
