Not true, using credit cards costs the company anywhere from MasterCards 2% to American express' 6% fee

Convenience Fee?

Remember the days when there were little community banks with people that knew you when you walked in the door? And then they got gobbled up but the people still worked for the branch? No more. I seldom see the same people twice in a row at my bank branch. Of course I have little reason to go in and deal with people in person.

I will say those at my bank tend to be friendly and helpful. Once I convinced them there was no money in me for logoed button down blue shirts I can make it to the tellers without being tackled and pitched for this product or another. Of course if I mention I am there to discuss fees all run and hide in their cubicles.

My one credit union experience was not at all pleasant.

As for mortgages, I have always had the best luck working through licensed mortgage brokers. They have offered the best deals and follow through service if I need them. I have checked references carefully ahead of time.

That's all artificial fees though, they(CC/banks) really need to make away with that crap. Same with debit card service charges. It does not actually cost anything to process it, it's just the CC companies adding those fees to boost their already large income. The servers and infrastructure have to run no matter how many transactions go through and it's part of normal operating costs just like heating and AC for their building. Paper on the other hand actually cost something because there is material involved.

But yeah that's actually why lot of places don't take credit cards since they might even lose money if you use it to pay, depending on how tight their markup is.

Convenience Fee?

I go to at a bank that has been sold 4 times since I have banked there.

The other day I went to the actual bank to use the drive thru.

They bricked up the window and placed a high def monitor in the lane. Now I talk to a person that is behind the brick wall, and I see him or her on a monitor and they see me on a monitor.

Everybody is hiding from everybody.

One of these days I bet they'll do that with fast food drive thrus. You'll actually be talking to some guy in India taking the order! I can totally see that happen.

When you call the number for our local Pizza Hut, a call center 100 miles away takes the calls and sends the orders back on line. And of course, many of the orders are wrong.

Yep sadly seems lot of pizza places are doing that now.

This outsourcing stuff is really getting out of hand. No wonder people have trouble finding jobs here.

That is backward. Several of the financial institutions I deal with actually charge you a fee (still smaller than $12) if you DON'T go paperless.

Here's how you can work around it: does your bank or credit union offer a free bill payment service, whether by phone or internet? Use that. They can send a check to anyone, paid off of your account. You can set up the date and they will mail it out ahead of time with the due date printed on it. I have been doing this for years with small businesses like a storage facility and trash collection with no complaints.
