Completely off topic Snowblower issue
Please pardon this OT post, but I can't find a proper forum, and as a member, I thought you wouldn't mind.

I have a snow blower with a 10 HP Tecumseh engine. The unit has a safety key, which is missing from the engine. Therefore, it won't start.\

The key works by either shorting the spark to ground, or allowing the spark to pass on. I have tried opening up the contacts, and using foil to bridge them. No luck.

Anyone have any info. Nothing in the manual. Thanks.

i'd tear it apart and just throw in a momentary, or an on/off toggle if it needs to stay contacted to run.

I believe you can purchase a new key from most any dealer or small engine shop.
solves a lot of problems

If you need it now, the key should just complete a circuit. Unplug the wires and use a jumper to get the thing going. Then do as DM or Merle suggested.

Have you had the thing running yet this year? You are sure the missing key is your only problem?

In the off position, the switch normally just shorts the spark to ground. Get yourself a new sparkplug just to be sure, and use it when checking for spark. The keys that are normally in lawn tractors and yard equipment, etc,. are not very sophisticated. A lot of them are interchangeable. If you have a round truck cap key or garage door lockhandle key, try it. You'd be surprised at what they open. If it fits in the lock, give it some wiggles and it will probably turn. Worse comes to worse, you should be able to replace the lock assy with a new one for not too much money.
Drain out last year's gas if you haven't already. Drain the float bowl on the carb. Put some fresh gas in, make sure you have spark, and it should run.
