Coffered Ceiling Help

We're getting estimates on coffering our family room ceiling. (CENTRAL VA)

Room is 18x20 w/ 9 ft ceiling.

Planning on building a 12" wide soffit around entire ceiling (framed then drywalled) then gridding framed/drywalled beams to create nine squares (each square just under 5x6)

Crown molding is being trimmed into each square (4" tall crown)

Any idea how to start pricing this out??

Initial bids came in (seeming) high... About $4000 to build the coffer grid, install, drywall, tape & finish, install crown, prime and paint. (everything but the electrical).

Really??? $4000 is pretty good....there is ALOT of work that is going to happen there with all the corners and finishing of the dryall. Think about all the framing, cutting and installing of rock, corner beads and taping to be done... Then it has to be sanded and painted and trimed out...

Who ever gave you that better call them back.

This site is geared towards DIY, not cost estimates
Prices vary widely by area & the specific job
Get several local estimates & check references
Thank you
