Christmas Display - Ongoing but here's a Start

With this hard wired timer I'm eliminating 4 other smaller plug-in timers that I use
And it will eliminate the need for 3-4 plug in timers in the addition
Main room is ready to be added + side yard
Not sure what I will do in the front bedroom - possibly add an outlet

I bought 2 of the hard wired timers for $7 each on clearance
Normally they are around $45

Christmas Display - Ongoing but here's a Start

Outside decorating started today
I'll be busy all day, lugging stuff out & setting it up
Inside window decorations are mostly up
After lunch I might do the roof icicles while its warm...but I haven;t tested the strings
Dedicated outlets by windows in the front of the house have been run
I just need to tie them into the new Timer
I should be ready to light up Dec 1st

Tomorrow will be a full day too, Tues & Wed will be anything I missed

Last timer is connected & running, turned them all on to setup
I had 3 sections out on the icicle lights, one was easy
The 2nd one is a pain, they gave me the wrong replacement bulbs with the box (still not fixed)
And it figures that ALL the replacement bulbs are different, despite the fact I bought them all from the same store at the same time
3rd outage one I didn't see until I came off the roof
It's the big roof in front....3 story drop
So I'll be tying myself off before I take a look at them

That slowed me down on decorating, but I like to get the icicles up while its warm & sunny
Tomorrow they say showers & 55
So rest may have to wait until Tues & Wed
Setting up the Village tonite

I also tossed out 3 defective GFCI outlets
2 were from the last house, never fully checked them so never tossed them
One is from this house - outside outlet with old style flat covers
It looked quite sun-baked as it faced South

ScubaD - just caught up on the progress after being away for a bit (got married), we went up north (for us) to a family member's place on Cape Cod and drove into Boston for a bit on Route 3, and is it scary that when I saw a sign for the exit, I thought of trying to drive around and find the house? Hahah... can't wait to see the lights display on here.

You would have only needed to go to Town Hall & ask about the crazy Christmas guy building a huge addition by himself
Our neighbor works in the Tax Dept (not sure exact job title) - might be Tax Collector
They all know me up there - especially the building Dept
Or the local Pizza places - we are actually in their Computer as the house with LOTS of Christmas decorations
The exit off Rte 3 is actually at the far side of Town from us - so harder to find from there

Yes - sometimes stopping & cleaning & organizing is needed before you continue
I'm at that point now, I need to clean & organize - tired of looking for my tools
Plus cleaning up until after Christmas
I'll still work on odds & ends in the addition
But the main house will stay clean & untouched until after New Years

Working on cleaning the Dining room today & putting the table back in place
Then some more outside decorating today & tomorrow

I FOUND IT! my big red tool box! The old faithful, a good friend to someone with tools that have to be locked up. hehehe

Seriously though, I have missed it, and now I have the perfect place for everything. I just can't seem to work without a place to put my tools, because they seem to grow feet when I'm working on something.

I was serious about the locking up part though, because when my kids stop by, my tools seem to take feet then too, so the bar goes back on the toolbox, and the lock will be in use during this DIY project, that's for sure.

Good to hear that the dining room will be ready for a feast, and that the decorations are in progress. I can't wait to see some of them.

In the end, all of our DIY projects are mostly about the home, so having it ready for Christmas is as good as it gets. Your children may remember you working on the house a lot, but I bet the Decorations, Christmas Dinners, and Family Get Togethers, will be what they remember the most. Nice to see you making it special for them.

The wife "threw it in my face" last nite
Coming home from Daycare she takes a different route then I do
She said there is a house down that street that has MORE decorations out then I do

THAT WILL NOT DO !!
I lost time to wiring up the new timer & outlets in each room
Plus the icicle lights are sometimes a pain...and they were this year
And I have 70' more of roofline w/icicle lights this year - which required being tied off to avoid falling

So I am decorating today...Nativity is almost done
Then I will work on the yard decorations....then bushes/small trees

Can you compete with this guy?

We went through it while back home for Thanksgiving. He spent 35K of his own cash decking out the entire culdesac. It was pretty sweet!

This is my sons version of decorating.
He's the best father, but when it comes to Christmas decorating with outside lights, he can't stand it.

They do decorate the inside, and it's so much stuff, that it takes weeks for them to finish it. But......... Christmas lights...........nnnaaaaaaaaa

Sheila4467, I started to laugh when I saw your picture. Then I thought, "That's more effort than I put into my outside lights!".

I bet your son is the first guy to get all of his lights taken down after Christmas. lol

Christmas Display - Ongoing but here's a Start

My children grew up with tons of Christmas decorations, and they all love them, but I would guess that they would love them a lot more if they didn't wait until it was freezing rain, -30 outside, or 3 days before Christmas.

Today all of my Christmas things are in the loft of my half cleared out garage.
So, today I put a couple of candles in the windows, and decorating is done. A far cry from having 4 Christmas trees huh?

Below is an example of the toolbox I found while clearing out my garage.
Not exact, but close. Boy did I miss this honey. It even has some of my Connectors for Decorations in it!

This year I will only have a Nativity and the candles, but I'm sure I will have all the decorations one needs, when I go to my sons house for our get together.

Well...the other house does have more decorations
But they are done decorating....I'm just getting going
They have a small Nativity.....8 ....9 pieces
I have a "Life size" Nativity...24+ pieces...probably over 30 once its fully setup
I haven't even started to decorate the bushes & small trees yets
I have over 100 blowmolds (plastic lawn decorations) out & still have at least another 100 to go or more

If it doesn't start raining I might get more done tonite

Day 2 more or less of setup, supposed to rain tonite/tomorrow
Nativity is mostly setup...star is missing....plus some angels & more choir
I setup the inside 1st - window candles, Santa rocking chair, LED snowflakes & the Christmas Village
A 2nd row of Christmas houses stretches along a shelf in the main room
