Chicago May be Under Attack
 
You know it never ends. Last week I was totally bothered by tall sailing ships on the Lake.

Right now, I ask you how a person is supposed to think with fighter jets practicing at mach 12 and altitude of 100 feet?

I guess we are not under attack but I may not be able to type any more today.

Sunscreen on. I am going to limp a block to a vantage point and watch. The practice sessions are much better than the Chicago Air and Water Show stuff anyhow. I can only deal with so many buzzy type aircraft blowing colored smoke.

I was in the backseat of a Navy hornet once because, civilian as I always was, it was the fastest way to put me somewhere. I remember the admiral of the aircraft carrier greeting me as "Welcome Aboard Skipper!" To this day, I do not know how he meant the greeting. I did have a mariners license and we became friends until he and his wife died. Meanwhile, the flight to the ship?

I remember the pilot explaining how to barf. "I remember saying something like "What you got squid" And, little did I know how insulting that would be to a Navy pilot. With flight control permission he showed me. I was not sick until we landed on deck and then I did hurl a chow line to feed sharks in some ocean for a lifetime. I do not tend to get sea or air sick but when there is a major change, watch out and stand clear.

So I will watch again this year. And complain about the noise the engines make especially as formation drills start this afternoon. I will also realize they are trained show aircraft. As my soulmate Mila taught me, I will also realize their engine signatures are the sound of freedom if deployed properly.

Are there any military planes out there this year? I thought they all pulled out due to the budget sequester and it was civilian craft only this year?

Sadly you are right I guess. They were just doing escort duty or somethiing. There is some talk of a fly by and wingtip both days but not the usual parade of fighters.
