Central A/C repair ... or replacement price question

I have a 7 year old Carrier split system. The condensor (model #38TDB048-3) is fine but according to our svc tech, the indoor coil is leaking through the copper tubing. The original fan coil only has a 5 year warranty (model #FV4BNB006000). He's recommending a new Carrier fan coil (Model #FV4CNB006T00) that has tin plating and a 10 year warranty. Adding a horizontal drain pan, TXV, labor & R410a refrigerant, the quote is $2,700!? We have been using this company with svc contracts for 7 years and trust their work. However, I have asked for a detailed quote because i can't come to terms with the quote. The whole system installed 7 years ago was $9K. Is this a fair price in the NY area? Anyone?

Thank you!

Sounds reasonable to me but we don't know the cost of living in your area. My cheapest furnace is well over $3000 installed and takes less than 4 hours to do. You job will be longer and more labor intensive so it sounds reasonable to me. Plus it is the more expensive deluxe coil.

I am told that it will take 2 men about 4 hours to complete the job. To replace the coil itself, is only $100 less than buying the new complete fan coil. So it appears to be worth getting the whole thing replaced.

I would not be charged for the freight and delivery but would have to pay for parts, labor, entire flush and full charge of R410 since it's not covered by svc agreement. I was told that the corrosion and coil leaks could have been hastened by chemicals in the house from new carpet, etc and high humidity/acidic air.

You can always get a price from another company. And if its a bit lower. Let your current company know. They may come down some then.
