Boston

Many years ago My little girl would accompany me on her bike when I ran in the neighborhood.

Fast forward many years and this little girl grew up to run the Boston Marathon today.

The runners were given a free bracelet made out of the banner from last year. Some of the injured from last year were there. As the first year after the bomb it was a very emotional race. The slogan was 'Boston Strong' and yes Boston is strong and our country is strong.

She's run many marathons an is an ultra runner but this race created so much support because it was Boston. The school where she works had a big rally for her, the halls were lined with signs the kids did supporting her and tv stations were there before she left.

36,000 runners today.

You must be very proud Mama. And props to you for setting such an excellent example of healthy living for the young ones to follow. It really makes a big difference in their lives.

Its very fitting that an American won this years marathon. First time in 30 or so years.

Just learned this and think it's disgusting And heartbreaking that people would do this.

Boston is $175 to enter plus you have to prove you've completed other marathons. At the end everyone gets a medal for finishing........some are now on eBay for up to $370.

What I think is horrible is that several runners copied and printed out fake "numbers" and ran in Boston!

How could people be so deceitful in a time honored race. What pleasure could they get running when they didn't qualify?

It's sad.

Cheaters are everywhere. It is shameful when you consider the extreme hard work and dedication a world class athlete brings to his/her event.

I think we had a similar conversation earlier regarding just who were the rightful gold medalists at this years Olympic Ice dancing competition. But when judging is rigged..how are you going to prove it.

Maybe they could not afford $175 to be patriotic.

I think there was a bigger then usual first time spectators count due to patriotic reasons.

I think the cheaters just saw an opportunity for profit

Creeper,

My daughter is running ( attempting) a 100 mile race tomorrow. She entered one last winter but only made 81 miles, but it was freezing and thru knee deep water in places.

Some of these runners are very dedicated.

100 miles That's 4 full marathons. I can't imagine what that would be like and I am in complete awe of those athletes. Wishing the best of luck to your daughter this time. At least she knows this time what she is up against.

How long does it take the average runner? Does your daughter do triathalons too?

My young daughter recently joined a running club. They train only twice a a week because her first passion is swimming competitively. Her brother swims too. They train for that 4 times a week and one of the sessions is at 530 am before school. Next year its two mornings a week before school and 3 after.

It is amazing to watch these kids. They recently had to participate in a swimathon at a 25 metre pool. They had to swim 200 lengths or 2 hours. That's 5 kilometres. She completed in less then 1 hour 30 minutes

Swimming is good exercise and not so hard on your knees as running. My daughter swam and was on the track team. I could never swim 2 hrs. Maybe you have a future Olympic star? Did you see Michael Phelps is swimming again but last week our Fla. guy Ryan Lochte beat him in a competition.

No triathlons for her. The 100 mile race closes after 29 hours. It's on a trail in a state park. She carries some food then friends meet up with her with more food and water.

So incredible. Let us know how she makes out

We love Phelps and who in their right mind doesn't love Lochte. There is a boy on her team who is our hopeful to represent Canada in Rio. But he is only 18

GO MITCH GO !!

They have liquid water to swim in Canada? I thought they only skated on it?

Silly Wash..everybody knows that the ice blocks on our igloos provide an excellent thermal block from sub temps.

The kids complain about warm pools anyway, their times are always faster in cold pools.

Actually for those that don't know..we have actual beaches in the heart of downtown Toronto

Just think...right now...somewhere deep on a forest trail, Startingover jr is as runners say " in the zone"
Meaning, she has zoned out and her body is in overdrive, pushing, pushing pushing herself to the extreme.

Im very excited for her and can't wait for the results.

I always tell my kids on distance runs that no matter what ..they are champs for just attempting to run. There are no losers in distance runs..the losers are at home in front of their tv's

She's almost done 40 miles an her spirits are good but her legs a little sore.

She was so disappointed at the last 100 miler when she couldn't finish she cried for 2 weeks. (We don't handle disappointment well). But this time she seems like she's doing it for fun and I don't think she'll let it get her down no matter what.
