Blood Pressure

My blood pressure has always been good - never a little high, never borderline, just always good. I had a doctor's appt yesterday and of course they checked my blood pressure and it was quite high. The doctor asked me if I had a head ache and I told him that have some head pressure, but I thought was on account of the allergies (pollen has been flying in my area for about a week now). I'm only 41 and with my history of good blood pressure, it seems odd that it would suddenly spike.

Anyone else experience something like this?

One blood pressure test is not conclusive--A lot of things can cause a temporary spike---

I suggest you monitor the pressure over the next 4 or 4 weeks---Then worry------Mike---

Blood Pressure

I checked it this morning at the pharmacy and it was just a tad bit on the high side of okay, but dramatically less than what it was yesterday (if the pharmacy machine is accurate). I bought a gadget to measure my BP. I'll see what is says ans log it over the next couple weeks before I go back to the docotr.

Often the EMTs at your local fire department will check it for you. Good luck.

BTW: DH is an MD. He has chronic high blood pressure he controls it with medication. It's no big deal if you keep an eye on it.

Blood Pressure

After being normal with meds for years, my blood pressure suddenly started running 200/100 about 2 weeks ago. The DR has no explanation. We are trying different meds without much success so far.

Blood Pressure

You have had it measured at different times at different places with different cuffs and machines, no?

Yes and no.The doctor measured it 3 times. I measured it the next day at the pharmacy - so two machines at two different times. What concerned me was the doctor's concern. He didn't tell me that my BP was high and that it was probably just a spike and my head did feel funny and I don't know that I have ever experienced something like that. So, my conclusion is that this phenomenon is something new to me and probably something that I will have to watch out for in the future.

I have always had good BP too. But sometimes it will be high when I first get to the doctor's office. Then if they check it before I leave, it's back to normal.

Do you have a lot of stress? That will cause high blood pressure.

Agreed. Even the doctor appointment by itself can cause a spike.

Blood Pressure

I went back to the doctor today because I had a grueling pain in my neck (literally). It kept me awake last night and I could hardly function today. I arrived early fro my appt and took a 10 min nap. After I woke up - bam - neck pain gone. The doctor checked my BP - perfectly normal. I don't understand.

Have you been screened for sleep apnea?
