I live in NW Alabama and have been feeding birds for years.
This year---Where are the Hummingbirds and the Bluejays?????????
Haven't seen a single one this year, and for the record, We had MANY Hummingbirds last year but have not seen a Bluejay in about three years!

Birds???

Evidently all the Bluejays flew up here to Iowa. I have several at my backyard feeder year round.

As far as the hummingbirds, all I ever see here are the Ruby Throat. Iowa is on their migratory path. I rarely see them, but they empty the feeders pretty quickly starting in early May and come back through in August through September. They have been here this spring.

We have been overrun with dozens of blackbirds this year. Usually only see a few. Lived in this house for 20 years and see several crows every day, too. Had never fed any before this year.

Birds???

The Arctic Blast last year destroyed a stand of cedars two blocks away. The European Starling flock that lived there moved into my Sycamores, gutters, chicken coop, garage....... Arrrrggggg! The noise is deafening. And my husband thinks it's nice to have so many birds in the yard.

Not all of the bluejays went to Iowa. I saw six at one time here in central Pennsylvania. Plenty of hummingbirds too. We seem to have a ton of songbirds this year. Starlings are nothing but filthy airborne rats. Not even native to this country. I try to drive them off at every opportunity.

Btw. I'll buy all my blue jays tickets to Des Moines. All they seem to do at my house is wreck the house finch's and robin's nests and eat the eggs.
