Battery Bragging - Just replaced 2 AA after 3 years

I have a honeywell programable thermostat that I picked up for a few bucks when we bought this house in 2007. Today it was flashing 'LO BAT LO BAT'.

At first I started to panic, I thought there was something wrong with my boiler. I replaced the two AA bats that have been in dutiful service for three years.

I'm sure I can be topped; but I was impressed.

well if your t-stat runs on the batteries rather than use them as a back up for when the power fails, I might be impressed but most batteries are simply a back up for the main power to maintain settings should the power fail.

Thanks Nap - I should clarify. This tstat is only powered by the batts, I think. No power from the house - only two lowly wires run into this glorified on/off switch.

So now do I get props?

I have you beat by about 8 months. Unless my wife changed it and never told me about it.

Hmmm... my thermostat was new in 2005 and I've never had to replace the batteries.

I didn't know it had batteries until I read this thread and checked. Thanks Leah.

Now that I said that, guess what I'll be replacing this week?

I hear you on the kids toys. Now-a-days they tend to have on/off switches, which is nice. However, they are a nightmare (literally) when they are on their last legs. Last time I stayed at my sister's in the playroom. And during the middle of the night amidst the plethora of toys on a toy shelf, elmo (or bert, or some other muppet) started talking.

It scared the bejezus right out of me.
