as some of you know. i am looking for a new, to me, truck. i want a rust free truck. and my brother just moved to atlanta. so he is going to check and buy whatever i get.

anyway. what i am wondering. what is it like haggling with people down there ? as in == i want $5000 for my truck, so i will post it for $10,000. and whatever else.

1 thing i am seeing on CL, is that atlanta CL'ers seem to think they have gold.
kelley blue book = $3500 and they have it listed as $6000.

Not sure that is an Atlanta thing but wherever there is a good economy. I would look in the outskirts and get out of the city.

Just like choosing a contractor, get at least three estimates. Try some car lots just.to get a feel for some prices too. Some of the private sellers may also be trying.to recoup the costs of 'upgrades' you don't want ( big tires, suspension, power chips, sound systems, etc.).

What I've done before, and I highly recommend, it to go to several NEW car dealerships and look at their used vehicles. Pick out one (or two) you like at each dealership.

Then, tell the used car salesman that you're interested in that truck, or either of those two trucks, but you're not going to consider them any further unless you can speak to the previous owners to find out why they traded that vehicle in. Obviously, the used car sales manager is going to tell you that's a breach of privacy, and they can't give you that information, but the bottom line is that they've got nothing to lose by giving you the previous owner's name and number, but a sales to gain.

So, they'll phone the previous owner and ask if it's OK to give you their contact information. They have to have that information because if that vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run, or used as a get away car in a serious crime, the dealership has to know who they got that car from.

And, the previous owner has no reason not to tell you the truth about the vehicle since they no longer own it.

You can also get the VIN number of the vehicle, and in some jurisdictions you can get the information on the vehicle (including current and previous owners) from your local Motor Vehicles Branch for a small fee (like $15). For $150 you can get the skinny on 10 trucks and buy the one that sounds the best from the previous owner.

It depends on what part of Atlanta you are talking about.

Good used trucks are expensive. I guess that's why I haven't replaced mine yet.

What are you looking for, and when are you coming down this way?

At least we can have a meet and greet?

Have you checked out carvana.com?

3 estimates for what ? they can try to recoup anything they want. but in the end, the truck is worth only so much.

joe, that is EXACTLY why i am looking down there. i have a 95 right now, and it is the perfect truck for me (gas milage could be better, 20mpg now, 4.3 auto). but it is getting pretty rusty. the brake and fuel lines, i keep spraying them with oil/grease to keep the rust from getting worse. but its a can of worms waiting to let go.

idk if these are actually going to work. if not, and you are curious = CL + atlanta + S-10 and S10 = 2 different searchs.

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/search...pe=T&query=s10

i like this one. but KBB says its about $3400

jbfan

i know the bodies are pretty rust free. but what about the underneith ? = brake lines, fuel lines = these are the first to go around here.

oh, and how are the interiors ? fading, dry rotting, etc. anything else to be aware of ?

I have never seen any problems with rusted brake lines or anything rusting.

We get a salt mix about 2 times a years if that.

Are you looking for an S10?

We do have some hot days, and the interiors can fade.
