Anyone have experience with the Ford Edge or Chevy Traverse?

Gotta get my wife a new SUV...The twins will be here soon and I'm not having her drive her cruddy Kia any longer.

We're looking at the Ford Edge and the Chevy Traverse. I'm a pickup truck guy so "crossover" SUV's are not something I know much about.

Anyone have either and love it/hate it?

Bite the bullet, and get yourself a mini-van. It may not be the image you are going for, but having always been a "function over fashion" kinda guy, we ditched our explorer last year and got a tremendous deal on a new Town-n-Country when my wife was pregnant with our third. We love it and have been kicking ourselves for waiting so long.

That's probably the most sensible thing to do Mr. Chips! But, my wife and I are really thinking that neither of us can take the idea of having one. She's always had SUV's and I'm a truck guy. No realistic reason not to get one but that's my excuse! Thanks!

KC,
Toyota makes a great mini-van. I have to agree with Mr. Chips on the mini van. My wife never saw herself in one either but she really likes them now. I can tolerate driving it (I'm a truck guy also) when I have to, pretty roomy inside and surprisingly comfortable to ride in. SUV's just not as versatile with two kids. If I had to choose between the two you listed I would go with the Ford Edge.

When the kids are still infants, it's easy and any car / truck with a back seat will do, but as they get a little older (2 years+), you will really appreciate all that a van has to offer.

Before kids we always had trucks/SUV's. I wanted to get a mini van after our first, my wife was dead against it. I tried again after our second, wife still reluctant. When she became pregnant with our surprise 3rd, we talked about putting a third row seat in our explorer, but the deals were so good that we went with the new van. It's been a year, and the only regret has been not doing it years ago...

if you are someone who tends to hold onto a vehicle, get the van.

This will probably end up like when Bud Cline told me not to use slate tile for my shower. Didn't follow that advice and now I regret it. But we're pretty much settled on the Chevy traverse. Just can't bring ourselves to do the van thing. Its a deliberate bad decision I guess!

Traverse can seat 8 people...nice
I like the looks better then the Ford
Ford looks more like a boxy SUV, Chevy more like a sleek SUV
Mini-van ? No way

Wife has a Vibe, small - but its what she wanted - commutes to Boston
Bought it after he turned 2 I think, before that a bigger SUV
I have an '05 F150 with almost 17,000 miles on it
I drive the heck out of it
