ANYONE Else drink regualr soda in NYS? You here about our new tax?

I am from NY, yes the most taxed state on the planet,

Has anyone else heard about the "obesity tax" on soda

http://www.google.com/search?q=obesi...ient=firefox-a

Yea, NOT kidding

Whats funny is that I drink regular soda sometimes and I am NOT fat at all, so now I am considered obese?

Also - what about the vending machines?

How is that going to work?

That, my friend, is big government overstepping its bounds. Wasn't it NYC that banned trans fats a year or so ago?

So much for rights.

I'd move.

Ayuh,...

I had High Hopes with Patterson after the Summer,+ Fall call-backs of the Legislature...
Especially with all his talk of Cutting Spending....
But,...
Alas, his True Liberal Colors are now showing...
No Real cuts are planned,... Just reductions in planned Increases....
And,..
He's raising Every single Fee that NY charges,+ instituting Alot more of them,...
All the while Saying he Isn't Raising Taxes....

Of course,.. All these new Fees, Are in fact just New Taxes, only with a New Name...

The Only thing I kinda Like is this new "Obesity Tax",...
Only because it doesn't happen to be balancing the budget on My back this time....
And,....
I think it should be carried Further,... Much Further...
Let's throw a Massive Tax on ALL Junk foods...

Ayuh,.. Lets Double the price of Twinkies,+ trips to McGreasy's.....With Taxes....

What else did you expect from a disfuntional Albany?

Drive the tax base and industry away with more taxes, raise the taxes on the remaining and give it away for the votes.

Not to make this forum political, but I believe to end most of this is to require a tax return for eligible voters.

Funny how the politicos claim they want less government but then pass more taxes on. Guess what they really meant was that they want to do less work for more money. I lived in Florida when the anti-smoking thing started. First thing they did was raise the tax on cigarettes. I have not known anyone who has gotten free medical care due to being a smoker. The part that really made me laugh was when it was disclosed that the State Board of Education, one of the biggest anti-smoking groups, owned large amounts of tobacco company stock which added to their retirement fund. It's all about money.

We've always had "sin" taxes on cigarettes and alcohol. Is this just the newest sin? How about a candy bar tax? Bacon is clearly unhealthy, so how about a pork fat products tax? Oh and we can't leave the ice cream industry out of this so a Dairy Queen tax is in order. Taxing ice cream will certainly lead to a court battle and since potatoes are mainly starch (fat), they should not be exempt. And just forget about an exemption for baked goods. How you gonna separate cupcakes from bran muffins? How about we put the hammer and sickle on the flag while we're at it and wave it over "the land of the free"?

I think the real problem here is that NY city and state politicians aren't creative or clever enough to think up new sources of income.

For instance, Chartres Cathedral, was built largely by selling something called "indulgences" in the middle ages. Buying an indulgence was kinda like bribing God to turn a blind eye while you sinned. Now why can't the City of New York see the golden potential in this. They could sell a "John indulgence" for $500 that let you off the hook if the ho turns out to be an undercover cop. Or, perhaps, a street racing indulgence. Think of it as paying the fine in advance, thereby avoiding the need to prosecute the crime.

The Romans were clever in raising money. The Roman Emperor "Didius Julianus" who reigned during both April and May of 193 AD became Emporer by being high bidder for the position in an auction held by the Praetorian Guard. He was executed June 1 of 193 AD on order of the Roman Senate.

Now, America has just held the most expensive elections in the nation's history, electing Barak Obama after the Democrats spent over 100 million dollars in his election campaign. That was dumb. The US government could have held an auction for that job and got a cool 100 million dollars out of Ross Perot or the Clintons for it. Easy. Then, just like Didius, whack the winner a few months later.

But, you can only play that game once cuz no one's going to wanna be high bidder if they hold another auction for the top job.

The term "King's Ransom" comes from the middle ages when members of royal families would be captured by the enemy forces during a war, and held for ransom. Any money paid, of course, would be used to help fund the war effort.

Now, when US forces finally caught Saddam Hussein in that spider hole, all they did was give him a bath, a hair cut and a free lawyer. They could have gotten a lot of money for him from his family who had already fled Iraq with truckloads of cash. Talk about a missed opportunity!

Three proven ways to raise cash. All that's needed is to think outside the box.

If everyone stopped drinking soda, juice, etc. and only drank water, the government would tax the heck out of water. They would come up with an imaginary reason that drinking water is bad for us or they would tell us 'there is a consensus' and 'Americans (just us awful Americans, not people in other countries because they're good) are destroying the earth with our selfish ways of drinking so much water. And by golly, if a couple 'experts' say it's so, who are we to question them? They would also tell us that people in other countries don't drink so much water so ..........blah blah blah, damn Americans......blah blah blah. All of the liberal media outlets would spin the story and make believers out of 3/4 of the population because anything that's reported on abc, nbc, cbs, msnbc and cnn must be true, especially if they're all reporting it and all spinning things the same way, right? Some of that 3/4 of the population would be very proud of themselves for 'doing their part for the environment' because they paid a higher tax to 'off-set' the water this horrible human population consumes. After all, 'shame on us, we have so much' and anyway, 'it's just a small tax'. Like Joe Biden says, "We all need to do the patriotic thing and pay higher taxes".

Here's something to really be amazed/disgusted at. The EPA wants to tax farmers for their cows, pigs, horses etc. Because when they (the animals) pass gas, the methane is damaging the atmosphere. A farmer with more than 50 cows will be charged $175 per year per cow and there is a different rate for each animal. There is a lot more to it than that.

Oh, that's silly... taxing farmers cuz their pigs and cows fart.

It'd be easier just to impose a sales tax on those kinds of meats. And on milk and cream and cheeze, too.

Do chickens fart? Egg tax!

(Ya gotta know these things to be king.)

Glenn Beck talked about your 18% soda pop tax, among other things, today on his show. He has the transcript on his website. It's his name, plus the .com
